3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
BOD 1/28/14. Cloudy golden pour with a typical head and lacing that retains for a minute or so. The nose is a blend of citrus and pine hop aromas. Light medium body, somewhat smooth, with a touch above normal carbonation level. The flavor profile is hop forward, but with a mild bitterness. Citrus and pine hops compete for a well balanced blend over a light biscuit background. On the finish, pine predominates as it effervesces then flows into a grapefruit rind bitterness that lingers. A solid offering from Coast, but it needs more balance from the malt.

650 ml bottle from Lane(clt85). Thanks. Pours a cloudy yellow-gold color with a medium sized white head that has good retention. The aroma is very hops forward with grapefruit and lemons. The taste, like the aroma, features bitter grapefruit and lemons set nicely in a light bready pilsener malt base. The palate is light but effective and the carbonation is lively. Finishes long and dry. Overall: Very tasty APA, I loved it.

Bottle. Golden straw pour. Lighter body, significant carbage. Really nice tropical fruit and pine notes. Bitter dry finish. One of better pales I have come across recently. If I was local, Iíd drink a bunch of this stuff.

Nicely aromatic and citrus forward pale ale. A bit thin and lacking in malt depth but just a tasty hop bomb that isnt too bitter. Great stuff.

Had on tap at Smoky Oak Taproom on James Island. Pours lighter than I would have expected for a pale- sort of a cloudy gold colour. Made me wonder if it is unfiltered? Big head that stuck around for the party.Decent nose - pineapple, fruits, malty and that resinous hoppiness that can be great or really, really offputting. Initial taste is the sweet and then finishes with a decent hoppiness. A sort of piney dryness. Balance is a bit drier than I would have liked/expected and colour is a bit pale- but a solid pale ale; almost like a light IPA. Solid and refreshing- perfect after the driving range.

64oz growler from Charleston Beer Exchange. Pour dull golden color thatís a bit hazy. Aroma of clean hops with tropical fruit. Tastes of citrus pine. Dry short finish. This is nothing to write home about but decent.

A: Pretty good here. Citrus comes through well. A subtle hoppiness.
A: I mean... what am I looking for here. Itís light... Explosive head is a unacceptable for a pale ale where the carbonation should be more in check.
T: A great citrus note but otherwise weak. Light, yeasty, malty drinks way too much like an american lager.
P: Despite the high carbonation it sits decently well. Nice flavor development of the citrus note.
O: I was really disappointed in this beer. After a couple great showings from coast this was pretty much a fail. The citrus note is great but the base of the beer is weak being overly yeasty and malty. Rather out of balance. And the over carbonation on a pale ale is really off putting.... I would understand a bit more if it was something a little more complex where bottle refermentation would bring out some flavors but with this is doesnít make sense.
