COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
**NOTE** This entry is for the 2011 barrel aged version only. 50% aged in Buffalo Trace bourbon barrel / 50% aged in Jack Daniels Tennessee whiskey barrel. Hold on to yer booty, a dark stouts a brewin’... as dark as the legend of Blackbeerd himself. Behold this Imperial Stout. Sweet malts battle roasted grain on the decks of yer tongue. Like a blast from a cannon, hops are followed by smoked malt. A lighter bodied stout-easier drinkin’ in the not so cold south. Ingredients: Two-row barley*, Black, Caraffa*, Roasted barley*, Smoked, Oats* and Extra Special* malts, Magnum and Palisades hops, ale yeast and filtered water.

Bottle... This beer rocks!... Pours pitch black with a mid-sized, creamy, beige head. The nose furnishes everything I hoped for except the whiskies - Pistachio, caramel, oak and vanilla flanked by restrained cocoa. Medium to full-bodied with snazzy carbonation. The flavor is nice, nutty and chocolaty, but the bourbon and Tennessee whiskey just don’t seem to translate; I’m not picking them up at all. Finishes sweet, chocolaty and nutty. Awesome, subtle blend of barrel aged stouts. Surprised by the lack of any substantial whiskey component, but not disappointed with this terrific beer in any way. Muchos gracias to Elliesbrown for shipping this delicious brew to me!

2011 bottle with black wax thanks to GRG1313. Pours with a deep black body with a lasting tan head and some alcohol legs. Aromas are of chocolate, a bit of rubber, caramel, bready and oak. Flavors are roasty, chocolate, lots of tannins, bitter, oak, wood, vanillin. Softer carbonation, creamy and warming.

The pour is black in color with a finger or so of khaki head. The aroma opens with vanilla and roasted malt as well as some milk chocolate (maybe some dark chocolate too). As it warms, the roast comes through, as does a bit of coffee. Molasses, coffee, and roasted malt are present on the palate. The whisky flavors are there, but not super prominent. A bit of vanilla to give it some sweetness. Medium bodied with fairly low, smooth carbonation.

Beerlando (3324) - Orlando, Florida, USA - DEC 28, 2011
Black wax dipped bomber, dated 06/29/2011, Jack Daniels and Buffalo Trace blended version. The body is a dark chocolate mahogany color, and it props up a short head of smooth, grayish-brown putty colored head. Quickly, the head pushes out to a thin outer ring, leaving behind a wet wash of suds that mostly rejoins the body. Aromas are based in dark baker’s chocolate and dry chocolate cake, hinting at sorghum spice and maybe some licorice. The barrel influence really isn’t all that prominent, imparting some woodiness, soft booze, and a hint of vanilla, but not much caramel or fruit. It really doesn’t smell all that complex, and in fact it seems a little watery for a 9% beer. Flavors follow suit, showing loads of dry, mostly bitter chocolate and ample barley roast. Hints of dry roasted nuts and peanut skins from the barrel come through. There is some burnt caramel, but not any discernible fruit. Yeast is prominent, almost chalky at times, having attenuated this brew considerably. The palate, while certainly substantive, isn’t as thick and heavily syrupy as most. As mentioned before, the yeast is drying, and the moderate carbonation contributes to that effort. I kind of appreciate the relative dryness for an imperial stout, which is rare, but the lack of complexity really doesn’t do much for me. It’s kind of like an imperial dry stout, more than anything. Odd brew, but fairly enjoyable.

Bottle shared by hopscotch at the District. Thanks Eric. Joan Jett black pour with a brown head. Dark roasted malt aromas. Smooth and delicious with hearty roasted malt, chocolate, and toffee notes. No booze elements that I can distinguish. Well done....

22oz bottle pours an oily, opaque black with one ring of tan head. Nose has some nice chocolate, sour mash whiskey, light coconut, malty, a little maple, some light soy, nuts. Flavor is malty, a little smoke, some light coconut, chocolate, brown sugar, a little cupcake icing. Full bodied, woody, smokey finish. Very well balanced.

Bottle courtesy of wedgie9, thanks man! Pours a very thick, dark black with an ample, late rising dark brown head that leaves some decent lacing. Nice aroma, good bit of barrel, roast, marshmallow, coffee, etc. the taste is grea, has a slightly cola, slightly coffee, slightly bourbon, slightly bbq thing going on, terrific. very multidimesional and prgressive in the palate. Another terrific year of Blackbeerd, definitely a great stout.
