4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 hopscotch (7527) - Vero Beach, USA - NOV 3, 2011
Bottle… This beer rocks!… Clear burnt orange ale with a small, creamy, white head. The bouquet is super complex, consisting of many components and layers – bourbon, toasted oak, vanilla, dried plum, dark raisins and caramel. Medium to full-bodied with soft carbonation. The flavor supplies a mélange of toasted caramel, dried plum and brown sugar. Surprisingly well-balanced. Finishes warm and soothing with a light molasses and dark fruit sendoff. Drink-ability is low, but sip-ability is sky high. Thanks go out to Elliesbrown for shipping this world class beer my way!

Bottle shared by n8h at Slutfest 3, Richmond, VA, 4/21/12. Pours a clear copper color with a thin frothy white head. Decent head retention. Aroma of herbal, salty notes, toffee, vanilla and whisky. The taste is toffee, raisin, soy, leafy hops, whisky, prunes. Medium-full bodied with some booze. Nice.

Thanks hopscotch for sharing this bottle - I don’t know what idiot at the wedding passed up on this beer because it was amazing. There is so much great bourbon in the nose that I couldn’t stop sniffing it. It had a nice dark, caramel color to it with a medium body. Its been 2 years since it was made, but it tasted very smooth. If the label didn’t say 11%, I wouldn’t believe it. This beer is only getting better.

bottle... medium brown with lots of amber, a bit clear, light tan head... smells pretty nice, lots of sugary malt, strong but sweet bourbon with a hint of vanilla... the taste is sweeter than the nose, the bourbon is really smooth, a touch thin and simple just sweet but this is worth trying

Not sure who brought this to the tasting, but thanks. Clear medium amber in color with a small off-white head. Great caramel and toffee malt notes on the aroma with great oak and bourbon. The flavor is great and seems to have melded over time. The malt notes are excellent, with deep toffee, caramel, and brown sugar, and the bourbon barrel presence is well-integrated with a hint of vanilla. Medium on the body and not too boozy with soft carbonation and a long finish. This is a great, well-done bourbon barrel barleywine. I’d say "brew it again," but at this point in my ticking career I accept that they rarely do.

A: The pour is a clear dark amber color with a finger of khaki colored head.
S: Just a fantastic vanilla smell to this and plenty of bourbon. Mild oakiness with tons of residual barleywine flavor. Brown sugar, caramel, and a mild fruit smell. Perhaps just a hint of chocolate.
T: Like the aroma, intense bourbon and vanilla flavors. A mild coconut note and plenty of sweet brown sugar, toffee, molasses, and caramel. A little bit of dark fruits and dark chocolate.
M: Maybe a touch thin in body, but pretty much medium. Smooth, medium carbonation.
O: Fantastic stuff. A pleasure to tick this one.

Exceptionally complex; aroma is fruit, alcohol, smoke. Every sip brings forward something different. Definitely similar to drinking a really good whiskey. All around one of the best beers I’ve had.

Sampled at Brewvival 2011. Delicious barley wine. Raisin, plum, honey. Lots of sweetness. But still enough hops to make it balanced. Great stuff. One of the best american bw’s that i’ve had.

A dirty hazed barleywine with a thin white head. In aroma, a smooth vinous malt, toffee caramel, tracle, raisins, musty notes and vanilla beans. In mouth, a nice smooth barleywine with corky notes, treacle, barley candy, quite nice. On tap at Brewvival, Feb. 26 2011.
