1FastSTi (2330), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA Mar 11, 2007 Pours to a very clean bright golden body with a thin white head. The aroma is very sweet. Light brown sugar, simple syrup, light lavender. The flavor is much the same as the aroma. Very easy drinking. Has a lingering sweet sugary palate. I quite enjoyed this one.
Naka (362), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 5, 2008 A hazy orange honey color with a small fizzy white head. It really smells like buttered canned corn. A little alcohol, honey, and grainy characteristics. The flavor is a little better with some yeasty funk, slight apricot, peach, and a pretty strong hop character. Spicy with some clove and a touch of ginger. Pretty decent body. Leaves a little bit of bitterness on the tongue. santoslhalper (160), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 5, 2008 Courtesy of Naka. I know nothing about this brewery, and this rating is purely objective.. Clear gold with a thin, non existent white head. No retention. Cooked corn aroma. Diacytal (sp?) to the fullest! Some sweet, spicy acidic notes, but most veggies and cardboard. Taste is actually not too bad though, with some funk, floral, clove, wheat, citric, and bubblegum notes, but sadly some hints of dirty foot. Oddly crisp and clean. Farmhouse lager? Hmm, weird, and not particularly enjoyable. dpjuart (495), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 3, 2008 22 oz. bomber courtesy of Naka shared with Exec Board. Pours yellow with foamy head, quickly dissipating. Nose of buttered corn and skunky wheat bread. Taste is sweet corn, lager-esque with fruity lemon and apple. There’s also some mild spice with alcohol warmth and flavor at the end. Not much of a saison. phishpond417 (1110), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Jun 18, 2008 This tastey beer pours a cloudy orangeish-golden colour with a thin head. Sweet aroma with lots of spice, orange, cherries, and apple cider flavors. Overall, very pleasent, palate satisfying brew. even though its brewed in Cal, the picture reminds me of the northeast. :) Glouglouburp (1829), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jun 9, 2008 In short: A very doughy Belgian ale on the wild side of things with a little Farmhouse Bière de Garde twist. Interesting beer for acquired taste only.
How: Bottle 22oz, probably very fresh, consumed a few weeks after getting it from mreush, thanks a lot Matt!
The look: Cloudy dark yellow with a short-lived white head
In long: Very aromatic beer. Nose is definitively farmhouse and wild flowers. Chewy malts with limited sweetness presence. An overall wet cereals/bread feeling. Farmhouse character combined with malt profile is more reminiscent of a good French farmhouse Bière de Garde than a Belgian Saison. Medium fruitiness with ripe bananas and citrus fruits. Carbonation is lively and very much Belgian. The limited sweetness is neither caramel or honey or candy sugar, more like a sweet cake dough. Quite a bit of aromatic hops with a light refreshing citrus touch. Very doughy and with the carbonation it creates a foamy mouthfeel. Either this beer is underrated or I got a fresh superior bottle. Either this is an underrated beer or I got a fresh superior bottle, although when it comes to beer on the wild side of things I’m as sold as a 50%-off pair of fancy shoes in a jewish store.
