Ungstrup (11930), Frederiksberg, Denmark Apr 14, 2007 Bottled. A pitch black beer wtih a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet with some acidity form hard roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of prunes, and over ripe fruits, as well as some oxidation. The mouthfeel is quite flat. Papsoe (11421), Frederiksberg, Denmark Apr 15, 2007 (Bottle 21 cl) Courtesy of Degarth. Completely opaque black with a tiny, light brown head. Aroma of licorice and dried fruits. Very full and rich body - this almost pours like tar. Loads of roasted malt and sweet, dried fruit, a touch of vanilla and perhaps wood - although I don’t believe this is barrel aged? Very vinous and delicate. The finish is slightly ashy with a very subdued bitterness. 090407 omhper (11030), Stockholm, Sweden Feb 13, 2006 Bottled. Opaque very dark brown. Tarry licorice aroma. Sweet, but not syrupy. Plenty of chocolate but the tar dominates. Despite it’s size it’s very drinkable and the mouthfeel is beautifully soft. Tarry salmiac finish, a lot like Finnish tar candies. Oakes (7047), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Feb 12, 2006 Syrupy dark brown. Rich, Christmas fruitcake, burnt raisin and alcohol aroma. Old School!! Smooth, oily body with hints of fudge and alcohol. Absolutely wonderful silken dark malts. No big hops, no big roast, this is the way impies used to be. Brilliant! Rastacouere (5421), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Oct 10, 2005 Deepest coffee coloured beer that produces no head. Immediately alcoholic nose that would gain from being fruity, but it leans more toward brash alcohol induced roastiness. A bit simple for an imperial stout, the straightforward chocolate flavours and coffee latte usuals are only helped by a remarkably soft and round palate.
