Coast Range Scotch Ale

Pretty uninspiring beer in every phase. Not that’s it’s bad...rather it reeks of mediocrity. The aroma has a light malt roast character, light sweet malts and little else. The appearance was really beautiful, with a clear, deep medium brown color with a slight reddish coloring to it with a strong 2-finger thick creamy cap. Flavor has a uncharacteristic hop flavor, combined with the soft roasted malts makes for something unexpected in a scotch ale. Not nearly malt forward enough, with something left behind. Finishes with a stale bready character that just didn’t sit well. Had to share this bomber, because there was no way I was going to drink two pints of this.

22 oz. bomber shared by DYCSoccer17. Hazy orange-red, moderate head. Breadily malty aroma, light roast, caramel. Pretty mild aroma intensity. Richly malty, almost barleywine-like at first sip, suggestions of sweetness, but that quickly fades. A little bit of smokiness/roastiness with very soft body. Very light bitterness.

22 ounce bottle purchased from BevMo in Elk Grove, CA, I think. 11 ounce sample. Floral, butterscotch aroma that is a bit sweet. Aroma is pretty light on the peat. Somewhat musty and metallic. Not overly aromatic. Moderate hazy orangey-amber body with a medium yellowish head and good lacing. A bit medicinal, thin, floral, and herbal to start. Becomes chewy, butterscotchy, malty with some roastiness in the end. A little thin, and it just seems to be lacking.

12 oz. glass bottle- color of dark amber , with a thin tan head - nose of smoky chocolate , mocha , red fruit, and toffee – taste of bright red fruit, caramel, coffee, and oak/vanilla - body is medium , and semi sweet with low carbonation – aftertaste of coffee , vanilla , and chocolate
