COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Some of you know that Belgian/Sour/funky style beers are not our go to style. However, we do like to dabble in them from time to time. Commercially, this is our first saison and our first foray into the world of Brettanomyces- which to my science geek self- are incredibly cool yeast. Named for our old intern Shane who is indeed a dufus.

Huhzubendah (2525) - Washington DC, USA - AUG 21, 2014
Bottle shared by Lunch. Thanks Paul! The beer is pale golden and transparent with a small off white collar. The aroma brings citrus, alcohol, malt. Something odd in there as well. Metallic and mineral notes. Aggressive flavor and a bit harsh on the palate. Light bodied with an acetic finish. Stone fruits and yeast. Mediocre.

22 oz bottle shared by Lunch, thanks Paul! Pours a clear bright light orange color with fading white head that moves to the edge of the glass. Aroma is bright with Brett, lemon zest and grass. Flavor is same with bright active carbonation and medium bodied. Finish is spicy combination of lingering carbonation and spice from yeast. solid.

Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Thanks to Paul. Lightly hazy gold beer, small white head. Palate is light, dry and crispy. Mild minerals. A mild wet wood dankness. Light sourness and mild dry seltzer. Touch of lemon. Dry finish. Slightly odd but drinkable.

Theydon_Bois (8695) - The ’Sham, Surrey, ENGLAND - JUN 25, 2014
Bottle split at Bruce’s Pad, big thanks to Paul S Copey, 24/06/14. Lightly hazed golden with a moderate off white swirl. Nose is funky, ripe fruit, tangy apricot, brett pangs, light smoke, tangy satsuma, straw, touch musty, citric sherbets. Taste comprises zingy orange, apricot, lighter brett than on the nose, sweaty rinse, straw, funk. Medium bodied, fine cabronation, semi drying close. Solid saison but the taste fell away a little when contrasted with the nose.

Bottle shared in London - many thanks to Paul. Pours mostly clear, bright orange-gold with a creamy, white head. The nose has ripe and tart lemon, some honeysuckle, hints of pale bread. Light sweet flavor with modest acidity, orange, Tang, some pale and tangy wood, a bit of lemon rind. Light to medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Lightly warming on the finish with further lemony tang, faint herbs, Sprite, pine needles. Interesting stuff. Pretty nice.

Scopey (6865) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 24, 2014
Bottle picked up at the brewery. It pours clear golden with a small white head. The nose is earthy, musty, funk, dust, old attic, blue cheese and old sweaty socks. The taste is earthy, funky, red grapefruit, sherbet, candied orange peel, blood orange, spice and straw with a dry finish. Medium body and conservative carbonation. I’m not in to that sweaty smell, but it tastes decent. Ok.

Bottle bought at the brewery. Nose is a moderate barnyard, hay, and horsey funk. Pour is a hazy yellow with a small white head. Taste is moderate citrus bomb. Kinda drying on the back end. Lots of astringent and lingering bitterness.

tdmuel (251) - South Carolina, USA - FEB 26, 2014
Pours a slightly hazy straw yellow with a small white bubbly head. Lots of brett funkiness on the nose, bright citrus, wet grass and barnyard, pepper\, and a nice tart note. Very light bodied taste, light bretty funk and pineapple and lemon citrus, spicy pepper note, and a light amount of sourness. Nose was great but the taste was a bit of a letdown. Not much funkiness or sourness. Nice citrusy character all around though.

WOW!!! I didn’t expect this beer would be as great as it is. Pours a golden orange with a paper thin head. Aroma of Brett, funk, citrus and pineapple. Taste is tart, citrus and Brett, funk and pepper. Such a fantastic saison!
