COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Status uncertain.
Coastal Brewery took silver in the category for strong ales (over 5.6%) in the Society of Independent Brewers' (SIBA) South West Festival, held at Tucker's Maltings, Newton Abbot, from April 24 to 26 2008. Golden Sands is, as its names suggests, a strong golden ale — a style close to head brewer Alan Hinde's heart. Full flavoured and full bodied, it has a refreshing citrus hop finish.

Cask-conditioned at the Wellington, Birmingham 12/08/08. Amber coloured with a slight white head. Sweet toffee and red fruit aroma. Flavour had plenty of sweet malt to start before some honeyed undertones and a big citrus hop finish. Good stuff.

Cask at the Court House, Dudley. Pours a slightly hazy gold with a small head. Aroma is banana and sharp citrus puree. Taste has sweet pine and citrus hop start. Nutty yeast, hefe-like finish. Citrus hop on the aftertaste.

Cask handpull, The Crown, Nuneaton. Deep red amber, slight haze, wispy collar of bathfoam fluff. Heady peach, tropical hop (pineapple), cask wood aroma. Woody, bitter, slightly spiritous. Nice citrussy tropical fruit mellowness rounding out as it warms. You’ve got to have had 3 or 4 pints of something else already before you can really appreciate a beer like this. And I had done, and I did.
