SilkTork (3959), Rochester, Kent, England Aug 21, 2008 Chris o’s GBBF Shindig 08. 275ml bottle from Shropshire. Vintage 1993. This beer is one that is often cited in books as an example of British Brown Ale, and so I was very pleased to discover this in my Shropshire hoard. Unfortunately it hasn’t stood up as well as some of the other vintage Brown Ales that I’ve had. It was smooth and sweet and pleasant - but also slightly watery and with an unbalanced oxidization. OK, but not the classic I was hoping for.
Dedoulequeen07 (128), london, Greater London, England Oct 7, 2008 Bottle Chris O’s . Vintage 1992. Aroma: oxidised fruit with strong notes of sherry and bourbon and caramel malts. Tatse is a lot less alcohol with a nice balance of malt and fruit. fonefan (6116), Ulfborg, Denmark Oct 2, 2008 Bottle 275ml. @ chris o’s Pre-GBBF Shindig 2008.
[ Vintage 1992-93 ]. Clear medium to dark brown color with a virtually none head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, caramel, vintage, oxidised but okay. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet with a average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat. (020808) Magicdave6 (4153), London, Greater London, England Sep 8, 2008 Bottle at chris o’s woo woo yea yea tasting. Alround rating: Thin due to the age of the bottle(about 10yrs?) oxidation is key, sherry, brown ale malts are still there. Good stuff alround. MesandSim (4713), Highgate, Greater London, England Aug 10, 2008 A Mes rate: Bottle at Chris O’s Pre GBBF Tasting
Very dark red brown with a strong red hue. The head is long gone due to age. Chocolate malt with lots of caramel and some heavy oxidisation. The flavour has not held up quite so well as the aroma but it’s still very drinkable.
