COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Filtered.
Launched 2005 as Cobra Lower Cal @ 4.3%. Changed to Cobra Light @ 4.1% in June 2008.
Ingredients: Barley malt, Corn, Rice, Yeast and Hops.
"Cobra Light pours a pale golden colour and has a subtle, malty, floral aroma. Zesty citrus notes make it very refreshing on the palate, with a clean and crisp finish."

A light yellow beer with a white head. The aroma is totally dominated by straw, while the flavor is a combination of straw and malt. Boring.

(Bottle 33 cl) Clear, pale golden with a small, white head. Very neutral aroma with only the faintest hint of malt. Incredibly thin and watery body. No flavours of anything - actually it’s sort of a scientific achievement to remove all flavours and yet still maintain 4.3% ABV. But very quenching - just like water is. 290106

UPDATED: MAY 9, 2007 Bottled. Pale, pale golden with almost no head and carbonation. Tastes more like a bland lemon soda-pop than a beer. The bitterness is all gone, and the little flavor and aroma is just a hint of citric fruits. The commercial description should be taken to court, as it can be categorized as a fraud. Most of this one went down the sink. (051112)

Bottled, pasteurised, 330ml from Tesco. Yellow with slight head. Corny, maize aroma into a sweet sticky, cardboardy body. Luckily I almost froze it, so I wasn’t looking for character as there was non to be found. A pop beer, but reasonable with spicy food.

Bottle from Morrisons. My version was badged as Cobra Light at 4.1%. Appearance is pale gold with no head and low carbonation. Aromas are corn with muddled sweet citrus. Flavours are very thin grain and corn with metallic notes. Not very dry on the finish. Would be OK to douse the heat of a hot curry - and that’s all.

Bottle from morrisons. Alround rating: Seems like its higher carbonated than ordinary cobra, very thin and quite sweet, cornish grainy malts, not much sign of hops. Not a good effort.

As Cobra Light, 4.1% (how can you make something that’s already weightless lighter?). Mexican looks. Trace of lemon aroma. Wet. Gold. Squeaky clean. Rice, white bread and rubber. Clinging sweet bready aftertaste. Doesn’t annoy me like I’d planned. Sometimes a brainless, rice-flavoured beer just hits the spot.

330ml clear bottle from Tesco. Dried dog poo, dirty straw and iron railings in the rain aroma. Carbonation forms a short lived hissing and popping head, then backs off to a gentle - though still insistent and nipping - fizz. Tastes very clean. I’ve had water with more character and flavour. Reasonably dry. There’s little that’s actually offensive about the beer. But there’s little that’s attractive either. Some dirty citric notes. It’s got that unwashed feel that rice beers such as Bud have. I don’t really like it, but it doesn’t repulse me - as it doesn’t quite have enough character for that!
