COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark Star Don’t be fooled by the dark, almost black colour our Dark Ale. This beer was inspired by the Porter style that has origins back to the mid 1700’s in England. Our Dark Star has pleasant roasted/coffee/chocolaty flavours from the inclusion of generous amounts of Chocolate & Roast malts. Not too heavy or bitter but a smooth, rounded, clean-tasting beer. For those drinkers that enjoy extra texture and flavour. 4% Alc/Vol O.G. 1050

On tap at Newmarket C/B Black with a large grey head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, caramel and light floral hop. Good balance between malt sweetness, roasty malt and bitterness. Flavour is a mixture of chocolate, coffee, roast, caramel. Nice.

Tap @ Cock and Bull - Newmarket. Black pour with a tan head leaving moderate lace. Slight metallic, dark roast and almond nose. Medium body and carbonation, about right for a porter. Coffee, cocoa, almonds and burnt toast. Slight smokiness and oiliness in the finish, something I really like in a porter. Definitely on the dry, roasty, bitter side, but very good and highly sessionable.

(On tap) Clear, dark brown - almost black - with a reddish hue and a creamy, beige head. Aroma of hard roasted malts - perhaps even a little coffee. Medium in body with a fairly low carbonation. Lightly burned, coffeeish malt accents and a dry finish with a light malt astringency. 060208

Draught at their Newmarket pub, black with a brown foamy head. A good roasetd malt aroma with a fruit sweetness. Again a good malty palate, but the finish was a bit effervescent. Didn’t quite deliver on the promise of the aroma.

Bottled. Clear dark brown to black with dark tan head. Strong aroma of malt, with some chocolate and coffee. Not bad, but a bit thinner/drier than I was hoping for.

Whether this is a porter or schwarzbier I can’t be sure. The look is good as with a lot of darker beers but the nose is scant and flavour a bit like a mainstream Aussie old ale. There is some chocolate and burnt malt flavours but not a lot of hop profile. so far this is not a happy expereince, but for the company of course.

Dark black in colour with small toffee coloured head. Little aroma. Strong hoppy flavours with burnt coffee hughes. Just a dark lager with hoppy finish.

Tasted 20/03/2005. 1.5L prefilled flagon from Regional Wines and Spirits. Black with airy dark tan head. Strong aroma all malt, chocolate and coffee - the classic dark beer nose. Flavour is roasted malty with sweet hint of something unmalty (lactose? diacetyl). Palate cleans out pretty quickly. Would like to give another go.
