An unfiltered German wheat beer brewed with an authentic yeast strain that produces a pronounced banana clove flavor. Served with a slice of lemon, this beer is pure summer refreshment.

Served on draft at the brewpub. Pours a hazy orange color with a medium sized creamy white head. Decent head retention. Aroma of huge banana notes with faint citrus. The taste is banana, citrus, wheat, faint hops. Thin bodied.

My Bottom Line:
This straightforward Hefeweizen married crisp hay, light banana esters and bready yeast flavors in a svelte and prickly mouthfeel.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slim veil of foam floats atop the hazy yellow.
-The imposed lemon wedge mars the nose.
-Some mild hop bitterness appears in the finish.
-The yeast could have delivered more complexity, methinks.

On tap at the brewpub.

In short: A competent but ultra-basic brewpub hefe. Does the job.
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Cloudy yellow body topped by a very small white head
In long: Nose of bananas and a twist of lemon. Taste of bananas, chewy wheat, lemon peels. Body is slim and the carbonation is smooth. This hefe sticks to the basics and does not even add spiciness like in some other brewpubs. No hops to speak of. Refreshing and forgettable. This is as good as I expected a Hefe to be from this type of brewpub. This is not a beer geek pub. This place is a family pub, and the child who was sitting behind us seems destined to become an opera singer, or more likely a missing person.

(Rating #3167)

Slightly cloudy yellow. Small white head for a hefe. Lemony aroma. Bland, bitter banana flavor. Sweet wheat finish. A little creamy as well.

On tap at Coddingtons. Arrived at the table in a pounder a cloudy yellow gold with only a thin white ring for a head. Light, pleasant aroma of bananas and lemons. Thankfully, the flavor was a bit stronger than the aroma with lots of banana and lemon. I really didn’t get any of the spice flavor mentioned in the description. A very good and refreshing summer beer.

Draught @ Brewpub: This beer had a very odd color. It came out an opaque cream color with no head and a touch of lacing. The color was downright unappetizing. I inquired about the color and was told that it was just dropped to the bright beer tank and hadn’t settled. I asked if maybe they should have waited until it was ready, but was met with a blank stare. Anyway, it had a nice aroma (once I pitched the lemon). Notes of wheat, citrus and some spiciness The taste is OK: a decent enough hefe with the typical flavor characteristics. I still can’t get over how this looked. It really shouldn’t have been served.

Part of a 7 beer, 7oz each sampler. For some reason I seemed to have a better experience than most of the other reviewers who have visited this place. I found that all the beers I sampled were very well done and true to their styles. None of them were exceptional but, even in the styles that I don’t usually go for I found them to be pretty good. Their hef was probably my least favorite of the 7 samples. It was a good example of the style but I found it to be somewhat boring.
