2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle arrived chilled direct from brewery, drinking now whilst writing the following day.
Coedo state that kyara has six malts. Unfortunately the possible malt complexity are overshadowed by an uninteresting hop bitterness, that whilst not unpleasant neither stands out or compliments the malts.
Overall a very drinkable beer, but as usual rather dull and un-interesting.

A can from Eki-marche in Osaka station at 280 yen. Drunk on the train home staright from the can. A subtle dark malt aroma, malts then some hops. a pretty nice smell. The flavor is a bit too one dimensional hop bitterness over a malt backbone, kind of a rough finish. Not bad but it could be better with a bit of tweaking. Ok but fairly average, the top quality ingredients don’t really gel together so much... as it warmed up it mellowed out and the malts stepped up to counterbalance the hops and the roughness became more subdued. I think you should drink this in the 12-15C range for best results.

Can from Yamaya. Pretty deep colour. Nutty, hoppy, caramel aroma. Smooth mouthfeel, carbonation pretty good. Crisp finishing, almost like a mild IPA. Good stuff.

2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pours a perfectly clear dark amber with a thin sudsy white head. I detect some noble hops, bread and some light fruit (pear?). Taste is fairly restrained, slightly sweet at the front end with some grassy hops, slight bitterness and a clean finish. A bit one note, but a very drinkable lager nonetheless.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
330ml bottle bought at Gorgeous Wine & Cigar in Yuen Long; Golden orange colour; No head and near-zero white foam; No lacing and notable carbonation; Sweet smell of orange, honey, malt, corn, and light floral; Fairly light sweet taste of malt, with strong liquorices, bitter lime, grapefruit, orange peel and strong grass. Medium body, slick palate; Taste profile is dominated by potent but pleasant hop bitterness, which is nicely balanced by light sweet malt and orangey citrus taste. Overall taste strongly resembles an IPA, with nice strong hop bitterness and astringency lingers on for the finish. Fairly dry after taste, fairly easy and tempting to mouth.
Comments: This is an IPA without a doubt. Its colours, body, smell, taste and palate bear a close resemblance of Brooklyn’s East IPA, but with a stronger hops character. It may have no head, smells a little bit lagerish, and a rather uncomplicated taste profile, yet it creates good vibes and drinkability as an IPA. It is promising, and with some adjustments, it may rank right up there with those damn good and tasty IPAs. Definitely worth a try.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
355mL thanks to MrChopin’s little sister. Pours a clear, bright golden. Weak white head. Weak carbonation. Nose is thick orange candies, cheesecloth, some IPA style aromatics, American style citrus hops, fresh dough, bread crust. Taste is quite nice- bitter, grassy, sugar cube, fresh bread, flour, so much snappy pils malt. Long, bitter, dusty finish. Actually very enjoyable, bitter, dry. Impressive. Some rustic grain flavor is quite nice making this pilsener instead of IPA in profile.
