3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 reebtogi (2169) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - DEC 9, 2011
330ml bottle pours slightly hazy golden in color with a finger and a half of creamy white head which left some nice lacing on the side of the glass. Has a pleasing grainy aroma with a hint of grassy hops. Taste is grainy with some malty sweetness and a mild hoppy bitterness. Nice carbonation and a medium body leave the palate satisfied. This is a refreshing beer that I had while camping in Washington, which may explain why I gave it a higher rating than most.
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 bhensonb (7581) - Woodland, California, USA - NOV 1, 2011
Bottle from the Davis Co-Op. Pours pale gold with a 3 finger foamy white head. Grassy aroma. Near med body. There’s a light breadiness with a decent amount of grassy hop. Then there’s an odd paperiness with a malt hinting of Near Beer. There’s some malt sweet that’s well balanced, but it doesn’t quite come off as an Urquell clone. Maybe that wasn’t the intent. Drinks nicely.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Gr0ve (1875) - Oslo, NORWAY - OCT 15, 2010
330 ml bottle. Pale golden and crystal clear. Some large chunky floaties at the bottom of the bottle. Papery and clean malt aroma. Oily and rich malty flavours and a relatively thick mouthfeel. Some hop bitterness, but nicely balanced with the malt sweetness. Reminds me a little of a helles bock, but only a little lighter. Very drinkable, except that it leans somewhat towards the sweet side.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 larsga (4661) - Oslo, NORWAY - MAR 1, 2008
Medium offwhite shiny head. Yellow body made slightly hazy by tiny suspended particles. Earthy grassy malty aroma with herbal medicinal notes. Sweetish herbal medicinal taste with notes of earth and peas. Soft, smooth, clean mouthfeel. Dry mealy aftertaste with grassy notes. Not bad, but probably better fresh. Should rerate. (0.33l bottle from Naito-san. BBD March ’08.)
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 KyotoLefty (3752) - Kyoto, JAPAN - DEC 17, 2008
Bottle from Yamaoka.
Buttery pale malt, slightly fruity, a touch of hop aroma. Medium malt flavor, decent hop bitterness with a bit of honey, citrus, some corn. Decently made, refreshing pils. Not great.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 TheJollyOne (221) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - MAR 2, 2009
Thick yellow body, bubbily white head. Nose was straw, some floral hops, and butter. Taste was grass, sweet butter cookie, citrus, lemon finish. Palate is crisp but not really refreshing at all. Not my kind of pilsner, too malty and complex.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 EdKing (937) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 31, 2011
Can from supermarket in Kagurazaka. Fairly typical lager with not a whole lot of exciting features. Pale yellow, medium head. Taste is a sweetish pilsener with a light dry bitter finish and a notable fruitiness to it from floral fruity hops, for a lager.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 shoulderbroken (587) - Tokyo, JAPAN - MAY 16, 2012
Can from the local supermarket at home. Pours crystal clear blond colour with fluffy white head. Looks quite fizzy. Aroma is malty, lagery, and a bit vegetable. Bit strange. Taste is quite sweet, touch of fruitiness, but overall just quite like a regular lager. All in all, it’s ok, and it might have been one of the first Japanese craft beers, but doesn’t really taste that crafty to me.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 KnutAlbert (4600) - Oslo, NORWAY - OCT 21, 2010
Bottle, gift from LarsGa, thanks!. Very pale beer. Somewhat stale hoppy aroma. Flavour is like a Balkan lager, they have found the recipe, but they’re not wuite able to make it right. The hops are a bit off, there is a hint of cardboard. But it’s almost there, it is perfectly acceptable to drink, but the flavour is not crisp and clean enough.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 DYCSoccer17 (2788) - Woodland, California, USA - AUG 14, 2011
11.25 oz bottle purchased at the Davis Food Co-op. Light grassy hops to start, which is followed by a little doughy, sweet pilsner malt. A little floral, and decently aromatic. Transparent golden body with a smallish white head present. Spicy, hoppy start, before this takes on a pretty striking vegetal complexion in the middle. Gets a little metallic towards the finish, and finishes fairly bitter with herbal and floral hops. This beer is just "dirty" for being a lager.
