COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fermented for an extended period of time, this dark brew boasts a stunning contrast between the glossy black tone of the beer and the smoothness of the modest pale head. This glossy black beer is called "Shikkoku," named after the famed elegant jet-black lacquer work of Japan.

330ml bottle pours almost black in color with a small beige head which leaves a thin lacing on the glass. Aroma is roasted malts and a hint of chocolate. Taste is malty sweet with a trace of chocolate and some hoppy bitterness in the finish. Has medium body and light carbonation. Very smooth and easy to drink, which made it enjoyable sipping around a campfire in a Washington state park, while on vacation.

Bottle from The Davis Beer Shoppe in Davis, CA. Pours very dark brown with a foamy tan head. Aroma is mostly cacao - with a hint of dark roast malt. Near med body. Flavor is very slightly sour chocolate. Probably from the near burnt malt. Nails the style. Dry finish.

Decent black beer with a grainy backbone. A mild beer with good flavor. Roasty and a touch soy sauce. Bready aroma is appealing. Not a repeat beer unless your really into black beer.

11.2 oz bottle purchased at the Davis Beer Shoppe. Nice roasted, chocolate, and metallic lagerish aroma. Really roasted with a decent sweetness. A pleasure to sniff. Moderately transparent mahogany body with a smallish, light tan head present. Starts a little metallic and a bit astringent, before this becomes nice and roasty in the middle. Not too burnt or roasty, though. Has a nice coffee character to it. Light metallic finish. Easy-drinking. Solid schwarzbier.

Drinkable Schwarzbier, black in body with short lasting tan head, notes of cocoa, liquorice, coffee and caramel. Fairly smooth, light in body and a dry finish.
