Fermented for an extended period of time, this dark brew boasts a stunning contrast between the glossy black tone of the beer and the smoothness of the modest pale head. This glossy black beer is called "Shikkoku," named after the famed elegant jet-black lacquer work of Japan.

On tap in Tokyo 14 Beer Hall. Dark brown black colour, thick cream coloured head that lasted to the end of the glass. Soft carbonation and mouthfeel. Quite notably roasty bitter taste. Hints of chocolate and burnt toast. Good.

Bottle. Black. Malty, lagery, roapy mild coffee roasted nose. Some butter, corny, dark syrupy notes. Med bodied, soft malty roasty, some huskyness in the finish. Ok, bit buttery, schwarz. Like mine a bit more roasty though.

330ml bottle (Pothouse, Tallinn)
Black, red glints, tight tan head. Looks great on pouring. very nice rich sweetish dark chocolate cakey roast, but alas a tiny taint of sourness at first. quite light palate, pleasat carbonation. lovely roast in the mouth, not too sweet, in fact pleasantly dry and burnt. finish dry, dry leaves, pleasant burntness, and a nice little tingle from earthy hops. drinkability good. nice schwartz.

330ml bottle (thanks FatPhil). Very dark brown color. Medium size, tan head, stays. Sweet, tiny bit of chocolate, roasted malts, slightly grainy notes in aroma. Mellow roast, chocolate malts, bit mashy sour grains in taste. Long lasting chocolate malts in aftertaste. Mellow, but also feels bit watery. But still solid Schwarzbier.

At Belgrade Eighth Tasting, round one. Bottle. Clean, black pour with gray ring head. Soft eggy caramel aroma. Body is sharper, caramel-acidic, clean, sharp sugars. Lingering flavor, a little lactic. Quite nice!

bottle at La Rue, dark brown color, creamy head, dry nose of chocolate, dirt, flavor of these always has a perception of being old and probably much better fresh, malty body with some chocolate and toast, dry finish
