COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fermented for an extended period of time, this dark brew boasts a stunning contrast between the glossy black tone of the beer and the smoothness of the modest pale head. This glossy black beer is called "Shikkoku," named after the famed elegant jet-black lacquer work of Japan.

Bottle recieved chilled direct from the brewery. Similar in style to an english dry stout, but verging on the watery side. The usual suspect expected with roast malt, but very thin in the finish. Overall very dull, and whilst clean and sessionable, has nothing of interest.

bottle at La Rue, dark brown color, creamy head, dry nose of chocolate, dirt, flavor of these always has a perception of being old and probably much better fresh, malty body with some chocolate and toast, dry finish

Bottle. Black, frothy, tan foam, medium bitterness, light sweetness, medium body, thin feel, average carbonation, & abrupt finish.

Bottle in Hongkong. Smooth roasted beginning. Fresh, smooth with sourish hints on a fresh and smooth but slightly sweetish malt basis. Nicely bittered roasted malty aftertaste. Round and great!

Bue en bouteille de 33cl, couleur très noire, mousse blanche moyenne et effervescence peu présente. Nez café. En bouche grosse attaque sur le café, continuité sur le grillé et fin de bouche avec une pointe de caramel. pas mal du tout.

Smooth and dark but with an unexpected lightness to it. Bold malt, wood and aged flavor. Nicely complex.

sample at big texas beerfest Pours a black with little tan head. Aroma of roasted malts and coffee. Flavor is of rich coffee with a hint of sweetness. Has a dry finish. Not my favorite style, but it’s not too sweet and not too bitter. A nice beer

333ml bottle from Saveur-Biere

Black/Brown colour with a small beige head. Mild roasted aroma and flavour. Nice carbonation. Simple and OK.

Almost black body and medium head. Interesting aroma, roasted, roasted whole wheat bread, dry, lager like yeast. Dry enough indeed and this makes a better than expected drink. Luckily enough dark malts too to give body. Enjoyed this more than I expected. (Bottle from Saveur Bière)

Pour on tap, clear dark reddish black pour with off white head, aroma brought notes of sour grain, some odd molasses with a hint of mint, some slight grainy noe with a touch of roast. Taste was a mix of roast, coffee into a bit of red fruit, some mint, herbal notes, finishing slightly dry, sweet. Weird.
