Tap @ Moscow Alehouse. Pours a caramel brown with no lasting head. Aroma is floral and dry, dusty, earthy bits. Tastes floral with very little sweetness, some cardboard, and more dust. Finished with a real hot floral feeling that left me thinking of rubbing alcohol. It didn’t have that ’this is too green,’ feeling, but rather this just isn’t good. Very dissapointing.

On tap at the brewery. This one is a lot sweeter than some of the other barley wines i’ve tasted. Came out murky brown with minimal airy cream colored head. Bartender said it was around 20% ABV. Flavor of malt and caramel. The alcohol was definitely there, but complexity or just a meshing of flavors was not.

Taster - Coeur D’Alene Brewing - Coeur D’Alene, ID
Aroma – Malty sweet aroma with a hint of spices as it warmed up.
Appearance – Mahogany in color, thin head and clear.
Flavor – Great sweet malt flavor with the high alcohol warmth. This beer really warms up well and shows its flavors. Spicy and roasty flavors.
Palate – Good Mouthfeel, nice texture with a dry sweet finish.
Overall – Hard to drink on a hot day this was a very nice barley wine that warms up very nice.

On tap at steam plant grill taproom in spokane. First off, the waitress said this was "22%"...while there is no way this is true, it made me order it. A nice attempt at a big beer...I enjoyed it until the last sip, but in full scope of the world of barleywines out there, it comes up much short. Zero complexity, thin body, boozy, but the caramel maltiness carrries it through. I didn’t experience any off-putting flavors such as the below ratings...it was just nothing to rave about.

Tap @ Brewpub: Dark ebony, thick tan head, nice lacing. Nose of ethanol, peach and other fruity malt induced notes. Toasty finish. Strong flavor, too much alcohol. Not much complexities but a moderate caramel body and some sweet cloying notes and more biting alcohol in the tail.

Oily copper colour. Decent head. Sweet alcohol port aroma. BBQ sauce flavour. Would make a good marinade or beef jerky flavouring.

A definite first half beer: big initlial taste of malt, alchohol and hops, but it all dies immediately. I don’t know where the hell it goes, it just disappears into a terrible finish that Brian found to be toothpaste but I thought it was just the thin but assertive hops that really didn’t blend well with the alchohol. I’m not sure if it’s the yeast coming through too but if so, it wasn’t a good combination.

Cloudy golden color with a thin head. Almost no aroma. Taste is hoppy and very minty. Finish is toothpaste flavored. Wierd.
