Coeur d’Alene Brewing Company’s interpretation of the classic German and Belgian hefeweizens or wheat beers, Honeymoon Wheat is a crisp, unfiltered wheat beer. Much praised for their cloudy, yellow-wheat look and refreshing taste, hefeweizens are a Northwest favorite. Served with or with a wedge of lemon, Honeymoon Wheat continues the tradition of the European wheat beers with a slight malt taste to accompany the delicate flavors of the grains. Lightly filtered to leave behind some of the brewing yeast, the Honeymoon Wheat has wonderful texture and mouth-feel.

Bottle. Pours an effervescent somewhat bright straw color. A bit of white foam with large bubbles. No lacing. Aroma of eggs, dirt, soap and mild wheaty characteristic. The taste is on the bland side with an earthy sulphur character that is very distracting. Not sure about this one. Maybe it’s way old...no date coding present.

On tap at the brewpub in Coeur d’Alene in August 2009. Couldn’t put this review in with the rest of my backlog earlier, as this place was listed as closed for a period of time. Pours a light yellow color with a single-finger white head and a touch of lacing as it goes down. The nose is slightly sweet without any other character there. The taste was a touch sweet but also fairly astringent and lightly medicinal. Really light body. Another bad beer from this plus, which was particularly offensive in this case as Amyliz4 and I were on our honeymoon and the name didn’t really fit the quality we hoped for on the trip. Draught at the brewpub (Spokane, WA location). Cloudy golden, small head. Mid dry with bready nose. Light bodied with clean mouthfeel. A bit grainy with some floral hops and low bitterness. Subtle and too clean, but nonetheless not without likable flavours.

5 oz sample at brewpub. Hazy yellow, foamy white head. Aroma of mild wheat and citrus. Taste is some wheat and a bitter hop grassiness. Medium body, smooth carbonation.

Tap @ Alehouse: Cloudy golden yellow pour with a smaller off-white head. Nose is lemony, in part to the wedge planted on the rim. Some faint wheat too. Tastes sweet with an odd element that reminded me of grape popsicles... Wheaty and light citrus, but the grape part was odd.

Golden colored pour with little to no head. Nothing strong in the aroma, but a light malty, wheat nose to it. Lightly sweet, with a little citrus. Not bad.

Lager coloured with minimal head. Aroma was earthy and slightly corny. No real wheat flavour but instead slightly sweet. Not really a wheat beer at all in flavour.

Draught @ CDA in Spokane: Darker hefe, dirty deep golden, quite hazy, moderate sudsy head, spotty lacing.   Dull wheaty aroma, not that big.   Slight cereal, kinda mealy.   Not very wheaty in the mouth.   Still somewhat big tho, at least a bit full.   Clean finish just a bit boring and simple.   More in common with a Golden or Blonde than a hefe.   Meh...

On Draught at Spokane Taproom. Aroma is fruity, sweet malt forward with a lot of bready notes, followed by notes of earth, light banana and no clove character. Appearance is a light hazy gold with a moderate maintained white head. Flavor is fruity with bubblegum and light caramel candy. Mouthfeel is light bodied with medium carb feel and a clean finish. Overall, this seems like it’s not quite to style, but a good and interesting interpretation that seems akin to a blonde with wheat character.

Fourth stop during the ABA Beer Tour ’07 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Sampled on tap at the downtown brewpub. Pours a hazy light golden orange brew with a decent white head that slowly dissolves to a fine film. Very good lacing. Aroma of multi-grain malt, some yeast and a lemon/orange zest. Taste is lightly carbonated, medium bodied with falvors of multi-grain bread, citrus zest and some yeast aftertaste. Finish is slightly dry and a lingering citrus character.
