COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Coeur d’Alene Brewing Company’s Huckleberry Ale is a year-round refreshing ale which combines fragrant Pacific Northwest hops, selected light grains and the essence of our region’s most treasured wild berry. We do not use any wheat malt in this brew to give it a cleaner, drier palate without heavy body and to leave the fresh, naturally sweet taste of huckleberries pure and accessible. Huckleberry Ale is a superior, hand-crafted beer with a clean, fresh taste.

Amber body with massive huckleberry aroma. Sweet with lots of berry flavour. Wish there was more tartness for balance as huckleberry gives a nice flavour.

On tap at the brewpub in Coeur d’Alene in August 2009. Couldn’t put this review in with the rest of my backlog earlier, as this place was listed as closed for a period of time. One of the better beers we had a Coeur d’Alene. Maybe this was just that good in comparison to everything else. Pours a light yellow color with a decent head and a touch of lacing. The nose brings some fairly-nice berry notes, which continue into the taste. The taste, however, is a bit artificial. Feel is pretty light and cooling. Drinkability is decent. This might have been their best beer and that’s simply because it tasted artificial rather than having all sorts of off flavors. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 11-30-2010

Bottled (thanks omhper!). Amber colour, small white fluffy head. Aroma is blueberrylike (huckleberry is said to be blueberries in a bushgrown alternative), some juniper (!), mild spruce as well as earth. Flavour is dark berries, some sweet malts and a bit salty notes in the background. The more I have of it, the worse it gets. Still far away from the worst beers the bastard from Stockholm has brought back to me .)

Bottle. Pours a golden color with a small off-white head. Has a sweet fruity huckleberry aroma. Fruity malty sweetish huckleberry flavor with some weak hoppy hints. Has a fruity malty sweetish huckleberry finish.

Clear dark golden colour with small bubbly white head. Crisp berries (huckleberry?), yeast, sugar and malt in aroma. Sweet sugar, malt, yeast, berries and some mild hops in flavour. This berry beer really taste like berries.

The Dan Journal #387. Tasted 8/5/10. 12oz bottle. Filtered with a golden hue. White ring of head. Aromas of vanilla, berries and a mild peppery note. Medium bodied with a perfumy and floral body. Flavors are spicy and tart with a great berry quality. Tangy effervescence. Crisp body and good flavors. Decent stuff.

Draught at the brewpub (Spokane, WA location). The first in a long serie of huckleberry beers I sampled in these parts. Cloudy golden, small head. Aroma of of spuce and huckleberry (less sweet blueberry). Perfumy and aromatic, light bodied and fresh with light grainy malt and slight grassy bitterness. Not complex, but appealing and quenching like few American fruit beers.

Bottle. Pale-ish yellow, average looking in the glass. Aroma is blueberries, I suppose technically huckleberries, but I’ve never smelled those. First thought was blueberry pancakes, there being some breadiness going on there as well. Thin in the mouth, really disjointed, no coherent focus on the palate. Some artificial-tasting berry notes, metallic, blueberry on the finish that unfortunately lasts. This may be harsh but it’s a bit like a Budweiser or something with blueberry flavor added, the blueberry isn’t integrated and the overall concept is confused. Not good.

12 oz bottle into flute. I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to review a Coeur d’ Alene beer, as it’s only a few miles away from me and by far the closest brewery nearest to me. Maybe because I’ve never been too impressed with their beers. Let’s hope my opinion has changed since the last time I had one. Their huckleberry beer is their most popular around here, and the most widely available. Aroma is berry strong--okay that was really lame. It does have a strong berry aroma, though. Also, some corn-ish grain. Pours an extremely pale whitish-yellow hazy color with a medium dissipating head and decent lace. Taste is sweet and a little salty. Finishes very grainy and dry. Highly carbonated, watery. Pretty decent fruit beer. Re-rate: nearly all traces of foam and lace disappear fairly quick in my second glass, lowering the appearance score.

5 oz sample at brewpub. Clear yellow, medium sized white head. Aroma is an explosion of fresh huckleberries, muffin, excellent. Taste has some tart berry with lots of sweet malt and fruit. Medium light body, high carbonation.
