0.6 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 1/20 Thorpe429 (3823) - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - APR 14, 2011
On tap at the brewpub in Coeur d’Alene in August 2009. Couldn’t put this review in with the rest of my backlog earlier, as this place was listed as closed for a period of time.
Diacetyl, diacetyl, diacetyl. Pours a light brown color with about a millimeter’s worth of head with no real retention or lacing. From there on out, it only gets worse. The nose is really faint malt that’s almost entirely covered up by diacetyl. The taste is buttered popcorn. The finish is buttered popcorn. Not much else to say other than that this was pretty awful though, sadly, was not the worst of the bunch I had that day.
Serving type: on-tap

Tap @ Alehouse: Auburn pour with a modest beige head. Earthy aroma was malty, peat, and nutty. Tastes of peat, nuts, toffee, and roast. Rather earthy, but still retained that English sweetness. Again a nice ale from CDA.

Copper with no head. Aroma was boggy with a grassy peat nose. Some caramel flavour and some peat and grass and nuts and just basically a boggy all over the place beer.
