Draught and cask at the brewpub (Spokane, WA location). Near black, small head creamier from cask. Burnt vanilla aroma. Dryish with clean simple mouthfeel. The cask version has a woody tartness which seem unfitting, but the lowe carnonation also enhances the mouthfeel. Coffee and vanilla are obvious. Medium bitterness.

Tap @ SteamPlant Grill, Spokane, WA<BR>Black/ruby, no head, nice lacing. Nose of light roast, a mapely vanillaness along with just a snatch of bourbon. Fruity and good, a bit dry in the tail but well built overall. A better finish and appearance would do this one well.

Opaque, near black color with a thin lid of tan bubbles. Great aroma of bourbon vanilla. Some dark chocolate and roasted malt also in the nose. Flavors start with a sweet caramel and lead into roasted malt and dark chocolate. Middle fills with mild bourbon and and vanilla. Finish is roasty and a touch thin.

Fourth stop during the ABA Beer Tour ’07 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Sampled on tap at the downtown brewpub. Pours an opaque dark brown brew with a creamy tan head that quickly dissolves to a fine white film. Aroma of Hershey’s chocolate syrup, vanilla with a touch of toffee and flowery hops. Taste is where the bourbon kicks in. Full bodied, creamy, soft with more chocolate/roasted malt flavors. Finish is very sweet and creamy. Of all the brews sampled at Coeur d’Alene brewpub, this is one of their most impressive beverages.

Draft 10 oz at the brewpub; Oil in a glass, visually, although there’s no desired froth. This smell’s like Hershey’s chocolate milk ... very sweet and smooth ... vanilla I get, but bourbon? Not at all. Sweet beer for the last of the night. Now where’s my brownie? (#2923, 5/18/2007)

Black. Dark brown head. Unusual fruit aroma but that may be the bourbon mixed with prune scents. Flavour is hearvy fruit as well with chocolate and bourbon edges.

Draught @ CDA in Spokane: Black as night, moderate brown head, fairly nice lacing.   Huge Vanilla nose.   While I love Vanilla, it does seem somewhat artificial.   Very difficult to detect anything underneath the Vanilla.   Noticing some roasted malts, barely.   This is moreso a Stout Vanilla Bourbon.   Very Vanillaesque on the tongue, almost too much as it does dominate the stout.   This one simply reminds me of Tapioca pudding with all of its Vanilla.   Very pale cocoa amd roasted malts on thetongue.   Did I mention sweet?   Not cloying, but definetely on the sweeter side.   Underlying stout is to light.   This could easily be a robust Brown drenched in Vanilla, however this is supposed to be a stout.   Don’t get me wrong, it is enjoyable in its uniqueness, but just doesn’t come across as much of a stout.   If you really love Vanilla, you will love this one.   Enjoyable, but not a stout... at least that I can tell.

On tap at the brewpub in Coeur d’Alene in August 2009. Couldn’t put this review in with the rest of my backlog earlier, as this place was listed as closed for a period of time. I’ll start off by saying that this was one of the worst beers that I’ve ever had, and probably the worst that doesn’t come in an aluminum can and have the color of urine. The color is a deep black. No head. No lacing. No legs. There is nothing going for this--it looks like still, thin mud. This was probably also the best aspect of the beer, as it only irritated me rather than making want to vomit. The nose and taste are both just disgustingly awful and each aging component of the beer deserves its own F. The vanilla was ridiculously overpowering and tasted like they dumped an ounce of vanilla extract into my pint prior to serving it. The bourbon component was equally horrendous was just overpowering amounts of booze. This seriously smelled more bourbony than bourbon. The two did not combine well, either. Everything about this beer was harsh and boozy. This was downright awful and I could barely stand to keep my nose within a foot of it, let alone drink that much. I tried to go back to it as it warmed, but it was just so, so, so bad. I am not exaggerating when I say that I literally threw up a bit in my mouth after trying this. Taster - Coeur D’Alene Brewing - Coeur D’Alene, ID
Aroma – Lots of vanilla and oak aroma with some dark malts getting through.
Appearance – Dark black in color, thin head and clear.
Flavor – Huge vanilla flavor with a tad of the bourbon getting through. This was a nice novelty beer but the actual flavor is too enhanced with vanilla the other flavors have a hard time getting through.
Palate – Good Mouthfeel, nice texture with a Vanilla finish.
Overall – Nice beer the concept is awesome but it taste too extract to me and not the real product. I would love ot try one that was from the barrel with the real bourbon and vanilla.

Black-brown with chocolate foamy covering. Glorious vanilla-bourbon aroma without being obnoxious. Full stout body with vanilla underpinnings and a bourbon belly-kick. Like any good bourbon, enjoyable in small quantities.
