On tap- What a great stout! the nose is thick with deeply roasted oats, hops, coffee/burnt chocolate and under it all the sweetness of vanilla beans. the flavor delievers on all the promises of the nose. the taste is dark, deep and smooth from start to finish but just on the tip of tongue is the hint of vanilla which seems to just wake up the taste buds and everything just tastes better. I hope they keep it around!

I walk by this brewery everyday and haven’t been in in 3 or 4 years. That changed today and it will certainly not be that long again, more like 4 days. The Vanilla Bourbon Stout jumped out of the pint to surprise and delight me. Delicious.

I really like this beer and was upset when they closed the CdA brewery. I recently had it in Spokane on tap and thought the taste was still great. A bit heavy to have more than one, especially with food. The Steamplant offers it more often than the CdA facility did. The hint of vanilla and bourbon combine for a great finish to this stout.

Excellent Beer. Vanilla and bourbon are subtle and disguised. Great aftertaste to mesh with fragrance.

TAP - Awesome stout in its own way. Dark brown with the darkest brown head I have seen. This would be truly outstanding I think if they toned down on the vanilla. The bourbon is right there too, but well balanced and it really brings out the flavor of the dark roast malt. Very creamy, which I like... Very good. Exceptional really.

Fourth stop during the ABA Beer Tour ’07 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Sampled on tap at the downtown brewpub. Pours an opaque dark brown brew with a creamy tan head that quickly dissolves to a fine white film. Aroma of Hershey’s chocolate syrup, vanilla with a touch of toffee and flowery hops. Taste is where the bourbon kicks in. Full bodied, creamy, soft with more chocolate/roasted malt flavors. Finish is very sweet and creamy. Of all the brews sampled at Coeur d’Alene brewpub, this is one of their most impressive beverages.

What a big beer. This is what the brewery referred to as the "brewer's whim" meaning it was created seemingly on the fly and it is uncertain whether it will become standard. For being the rotating tap it was surprising as hell, because it was easily the best beer offered. Big vanilla flavor and aroma, HUGE. The bourbon was nice too, incorporated in such a way that the alchohol just made the vanilla all the more smooth and rounded. I'm not sure about the whole strong ale vs. stout fiasco, the waitress told us strong ale and the tap handle told us stout. I'd argue with Brian that it could be a stout, because the roasted grain was there, but who really knows. As great as the vanilla is here it could stand to be reduced by just a hair, otherwise this was pretty damn good.

Tap @ Alehouse: Near black with a thin brown head. Aroma is pure sweet vanilla with a light amount of bourbon. Taste is a blend of vanilla, light char, espresso, and chocolate. Very minimal bourbon presence, really quite the right amount in this case. Slightly thin in the body. Still damn good.

This is a very creamy smooth stout that has wonderful fints of vanilla and bourbon. Neither flavor over powers you, and it end nice and smooth.

First of all, this is not a stout, I don't know why they call it a stout, it should be a strong ale but I can't argue with the label. Great creamy head and body. Vanilla is all over the taste and aroma. Whiskey elements are in play here too, must have been barrel aged. Nice tart bitterness in a vanilla finish. Could use just a hint less vanilla, but this is a great winter beer.
