On draught at The Wenlock Arms. Almost black with a tiny little head. Faint earthy aroma. Earthy flavours, chocolate hitting in towards the finish. Light-bodied, a bit watery. Dry mouthfeel. Strangely likeable.

Cask@EBF 2008. Dark brown with a slight haze. Low tan head. Dry choco aroma. A scent of roast and coffee. Taste appears sweeter, light malty with chocolate and cocoa. Fruity tones. Chalky mouthfeel. Quite filling for a 4.3% beer. Dry choco finish. Nice.

Cask @ EBF 2008. Dark, reddish body, almost black with a thin off/white head. Aroma of roasted malt and lots of chocolate. Flavor is roasted malt, some chocolate and dry fruit. A bit thin body, but after all quite refreshing and tasty. Not bad at all.
3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 berkshirejohn (3644) - Bracknell, Berkshire, ENGLAND - NOV 27, 2008
[Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading.] Pitch black with a tawny hue and a thin tan head that laces the glass well. Malted milk aroma; caramel and milky coffee flavours to start; smooth and silky in the mouth; then developing contrasting bitter and sweet chocolate flavours towards the end. An excellent example of what a stout should be; a world away from spuer-chilled nitro-keg mass-produced alternatives.

Chocolatey, a bit thin, but nice chocolately brew. A touch sour. Not superbly rounded.
