varanid99 (1007) - AUSTRALIA - JAN 6, 2013
Black pour, light brown head. Big combination of smoke, fruitcake, burnt toffee on the nose. Very easy drinking for the ABV, toffee, dried fruit, and good bitterness on the finish.

Bit of a rough, smokey hit at the start followed by robust flavours or deep roasted malts and chocolate.

On draught @ Sail & Anchor, Fremantle.
Left this one aside for a wee moment after ordering to come up to a more comfortable temperature for such a style of beer. Black end of brown is the body with a compact and tight tan head. Leaves good legs when rolled around the glass; the head well retained but the lace is minimal. Roasted coffee, leather, tar and molasses pick the brain first on the nose with a little hit of caramelised stonefruit, bonfire smoke and liquorice. Silky smooth and creamy in the mouth with an oily finish. The body is not too heavy, not too light. Very bitter in the tail and dominated by burnt malt and grain. Sweet toffee, choc icecream and sticky fruits add depth as does a touch of molasses and aniseed in the finish. Long, well retained flavours show good balance. The alcohol is loud and ever present; nicely warming. Overall it is a decent winter warmer. Not bad!

bluevegie (3071) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - SEP 3, 2012
Deep dark brown body with lasting tan head. Raisins and alcohol, sultanas on the nose. Almost full in body and a little reminiscent of a robust, malt driven, touch of crystal malt, roasted nuts, toast, mouth filling but not heavy, also hints of liquorice, black currant.
