3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Chrism86 (294) - Melbourne, - FEB 22, 2009
Pours dark amber with a substantial off white head. Aromas are exceptionally hop driven, sense some caramel malt, but piney hops dominate. Palate brings a decent amount of caramel malt before medium-high hop bitterness drives the finish. Agree with mullet that malt and hops lacked real synergy, but didn’t pick up on any technical faults...Not that i’m great in that department!
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 ALLOVATE (1708) - Butler, WA, AUSTRALIA - JAN 6, 2011
Tasting from Mar’ 2008. Last new beer of the day, the least notes. Pours an orange copper and sparkling with fine carbonation sluggish to rise. Tight and tidy, glossy pad of white atop, lasts and laces well. Thick and full, zesty and tangy citrussy hop nose with a good whack of toasted and crystal malts. Assertively bitter in the mouth. Tangerines and blood oranges, grapefruit and stinging nettles with a truck load of pine resin. Big peak, a floral, tangy, citrussy drop-off into a malty, hoppy swallow that sees everything working harmoniously. Soft carbonation, good firm mouthfeel becoming creamy in back. Juicy esters just kept me salivating. Nice balance of malt and hop, not aggressive but definitely peaking. Very nice! (pint serve, on Draught at the brewery, Cowaramup)

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Stew41 (1457) - Woodend, AUSTRALIA - FEB 15, 2010
Very simple build but works very well. Light citrus early and the hops come through nicely. Good balance here.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 nate2g (1548) - Marlborough, NEW ZEALAND - JUL 10, 2009
Draught at The Local Taphouse, Sydney. (7.2% ABV). Pours dark golden with a medium white head. The aroma is biscuit malt and floral nose. The flavour is sweet malt and tropical fruit. Sweet and bitter mouthfeel and balanced well. It’s not one of the better IPA’s there on the day.
2.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 mullet (849) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - FEB 18, 2009
On tap at The Local Taphouse. Good fresh hop aroma reminiscent of young pine needles (where the classic US hop character is more mature/Pine O Cleen) and other NZ (?) hop character but otherwise marred by the same issues as the Pale Ale - only to a greater extent. More crystal malt, more hops, more acid, more harshness, though about the same level of diacetyl. Flavours seem completely disjointed and the hop flavours especially clang around without a solid maltiness to carry them. The hop character (aroma especially) is actually very good, it’s just got nothing to hold onto. As it is it’s pretty hard going. Where is Dr Quick when we need him?
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 bluevegie (2928) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - SEP 20, 2007
This replaces the Dr Quick. Tried on tap at the brewery on both Tuesday and Wednesday this week and what a difference a day makes. Tuesday I struggled to drink it as it was too bitter for me, come Wednesday it was still the same beer but it went down a treat. Slightly murky coppery amber body with a short but lasting head. Full hop flavours showing both in taste and aroma but good malts backing it up. Seems thick in body and you don’t seem to notice the alcohol as you can’t get past the hops.
