3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Visited Oct 2012, notes are a tad vague by this stage. Almost black pour with a light tan head. Aroma is roasted grain, dark chocolate, coffee, burnt sugar. Flavour is roasty, some coffee and chocolate, caramel.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Growler from MordeciaFunk as part of Aussie BIF. Pours a very dark brown with smallish light tan coloured head. Aromas are dominated by the malt with lots of sweet dusty cocoa, roasted grain, and coffee. Nice stuff. Flavours are a little unbalanced and a little one dimensional for mine with a very assertive bitterness and some alcohol and not a lot else. A tad more malt character would have help. Medium mouthfeel.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tasting from Mar’ 2008.
On draught at the brewery, Margaret River. Blackened brown body, cola brown in the very shallows and shimmering in the afternoon sun. Big, tannish crown, dense, well held to leave some good lacing. Bitter/sweet dark chocolate, molasses and heavily roasted coffee beans on the nose, spiced and warming. Silky, smooth, medium bodied with just a prickle of delicate carbonation present on the tip of the tongue. Dusty cocoa and vanilla bean, a mild hint of anise under layers of milk chocolate, burnt caramel and smokey, overly roasted coffee. Rich in the finish also with good malty length. Alcohol is present but aptly kept at bay. This was the best of the day, a really solid Porter that what it lacked in complexity it made up for in balance and poise. I could easily drink this all afternoon. Very nice!

Tap. Great beer. Aromas of chocolate, vegemite, liquoice, and coffee. Taste is sweet, with bitter notes, and long lasting. Palate is velvety, and medium bodied. Dark brown, with a frothy white head.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sample on tap at the 2007 Western Australian Beer Week Launch
Poured a very dark brown, with insipiring tan head, aromas of dark raosty malts, and some dark fruits. Flavour dominated by rasted malts, with nice balancing sweetness, hops hard to taste. Pretty satisfying.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: MAR 13, 2007 textbook robust porter, basically a tarry dry stout without the roast barley bitterness (like sam smith taddy porter), however with plenty of hops. aggressively hoppy and roasty with complex fruity esters, clean, fairly fullbodied but not thick. some evidence of molasses maybe on the nose. a great mixture of black and bright green like a bushfire’s just been through and the bright green shoots are sprouting out at all angles from the charred trunks.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: SEP 16, 2005 Real deep dark brown body with a lovely medium tan head that was large and rocky. Head didn’t last the whole distance but left some solid lacing initially. Aroma was of hops mainly (Cascade?) and then some roasted malt. Taste was well balanced, the hops are still there but along with some soft chocolate, bitterness is light and at the very start of the palate, medium to full body and a chalky finish. You notice the alcohol right at the end if at all. This beer just lacks a little more bitterness to top it off.
If you are into dark beers and also appreciate hops you will love this beer.
This Brewer is a hop head and it will be sorry to see him go to New Zealand.
