Can courtesy (?) of Milwaukee white elephant. Transparent and magnifying brass balls yellow in color with a mold growth of grayish white for the head. Sand paper, lemon suds, vanilla buttered rum toffee, lime scented cloves and dollar store fabric softener all commit severe injustices to the nose. More flavor comes in that expected with the first slip, but then it all slips away into a banana-esque, lemon buttered cheese cream Danish. Dough biscuits get kneaded between the tongue’s roof, eventually excreting mineral water out of steel reserves. The waxy, vanilla lemon wafer crisps out with a strange Splenda artificial sweetness. Sweet, milky banana cream decrescendo.

500ml can. Pours a cloudy orange-tan with a head that quickly fades away. Mild clovy banana aroma fades into adjuncty sweetness as you get to know it. Hmm...way adjuncty and sweet. The hefe yeast helps to give it some tolerability, but overall this one is a loser. Avoid.

Pours milky yellow gold with a 2 finger foamy white head that has poor retention. Aroma is yeast, lemon, plant notes and citrus. Flavor is basically the same but with a tart, dusty grain finish. A boring hefe.

Pint can. Hazy gold color with a big white head that dies down pretty fast. Citrus and sharp wheat nose. Taste is watery with sharp wheat, fruit, and some spiciness at the end. There is an odd sort of flavor during the finish that is unwanted. This strikes me as more of an American wheat than a German Hefe.

Hazy, medium gold body. I was actually surprised to see a little bit of yeast pour out of the can. The aroma is Irish Spring soap with light lemon notes. There is also a little bit of cinnamon. The taste is lemon drops with some nasty cough syrup in the finish. This is medicinal and yet strangely drinkable. Not too bad considering the brewer and the method of serving.

Cloudy yellow/gold in glass. Smells like sparkling cider. Nice head at pour but dissapears very quickly living a thin ring of medium sized bubbles around the rim of the glass. You get a sweet/sour heffe taste at first sip that dissapears faster then the head. Very fine carbonation, almost chapagne like. Not a thriller but the best tasting drink i had from Glueks. (that ain’t saying much!!) And one more thing. "draught style" WTF!

Canned. Poured clear (or damn near) bright golden with a short cap of white head. The aroma picked up odd metallic and vegetal notes upfront, and it really didn’t get better.. plenty of pale malt, a little honey, and some banana sweetness come through.. sour overall and not good. The flavor was just as bad.. honey and other adjunctey sweetness at the core with tacky artificial bananas and a little cough syrup around the edges.. citrus fruits showed up, but didn’t do much for me. Light-bodied with an ugly feel throughout the palate.. sourness was out of place and the finish was dry and grainy. Bad stuff.

UPDATED: MAY 30, 2009 Can. Sour orange juice and wheat malt aroma. Cloudy orange-yellow color with small head. Stale wheat malt flavor with slight hint of orange. Lacks the fruity/spicy esters of most Hefes.

Clear yellow body with white head. Corn on the nose and body. Metallic finish. No banana, clove or anything else I’d look for in a Hefe.

I sure didn’t need to use a hefeweizen glass for this one. It pours a clear yellow body with a tall fizzy head that evaporates with haste. The aroma is soiled wheat with a touch of tin. The mouthfeel is oily and metallic. It tastes of some generic malt with a bit of wheat and has a tinny finish. Truly a Gluek of a hefeweizen.

This’ll be the first hefeweizen I’ve had out of a can. Even though they’re both Minnesotan, I don’t think Gluek is as well know for canning quality beer as Surly. Poured a cloudy blonde with a decent sized head. There was a very faint sweet aroma. Tasted awfully metallic with some wheat and malt hints. I probably couldn’t identify this as a hefeweizen in a blind taste test though. Lacks complexity completely and barely drinkable.
