Bottle, many thanbks to Craig for this one cheers mate!, had this 02-02-08 Poured amber some haze, very little head. Aroma a bit malty and also some smokiness. Tasted really quite smoky with good bitterness and then a flurry of sweet malts drop in at the end. The smokiness is always there on the first sip and I was quite pleased to see that I’d noted that before even reading the description on the back of the bottle. This isn’t bad but a 568ml bottle is a bit too much as a half would have sufficed for me tonight. Just looking back at some of the rates, I reckon I’ve got a good bottle of this :-)
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 FatPhil (6207) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - AUG 16, 2011
568ml bottle (ChrisO’s pre-GBBF2011 "Donkey Dork Lord" shindig)
Big mashy aroma. Decent brown, nice head. Sweet and malty body. Has a full palate. Simple, and playing on the scottish 80/- stereotype, but despite being simple it’s not boring. Standing out above the previous 2 boring (M&S branded) bitters by looking better, being more succulent in the mouth, and having plenty of tangy malts in the finish.

Bottle at chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig ’11. It pours dark amber, with a thin foamy beige head and low carbonation. The nose is nut, caramel and sweet malt. The taste is caramel, toffee, light sour tang, cardboard, light smoke, chocolate and brown sugar with not much in the finish. Not bad.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 KnutAlbert (4603) - Oslo, NORWAY - AUG 29, 2007
Bottled, RBESG.
If you want your bitter on the sweet side, this should be fine, but this is not how I want them. Lots of malty flavour, some more hops would have balanced this more.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 DruncanVeasey (5146) - NUNEATON, Blue Square Prem, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - MAY 26, 2011
Bottle from Dobbies. Bronze with a fine slim lid. Aroma like strawberry juice, red apple, rhubarb sprinkled with cinnamon- all yeast and English hop. Soda-like fizz in the mouth; spice and sherbet, strawberry chew, Tizer, hints of salinity. Mad with yeast like a dunkelweizen. OK flavours but lacking body and malt spine. Quite unlike any Scottish beer I’ve tasted.
