600 ml bottle to snifter (shared by DrSilverworm). Looks solid; a slightly translucent dark amberish brown with bubbly tan lacing. Smells of dark malt and sugar cane. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. Solid beer, but underwhelming for the style.

[5399-20130530] Sample. Richly roasted sweet bread aroma. Dark brown body with a medium-lasting creamy tan head. Burnt wooden grains flavour. Full body. Tasty. (7/4/8/4/16) 3.9

@ Party Town / Florence KY --- Opaque black color, thick rim head, bands of lace. Taste is straightforward and solid: roasted caramel malt that adds semi-sweet chocolate in the palate. Light bittering is all that is needed for good balance. Simple, yes. Well done? Yes.

Draft at Farmers Cabinet. New keg brought a difficult three try pour. Goblet. Very murky dark brown pour with an overabundance of beige foam. Lots of wet lace. Reasonaby thick body. Rancid dark brown fruit. A creamy, frothy rotted fruit table. Daekly unusual and a bit nauseating at times. Prunes. Dates. Figs. Raisins. Lots of horrific acetic notes. Not for everyone. Feels like a necrophiliacs milky dream. Obviously not for everyone. But definitely extraordinary.

Tap at Barley John’s. Very dark brown pour with a small clingy head. Licorice, plum, cocoa, maybe a hint of coffee. Can feel the alcohol warmth down the throat. Pretty solid.

600 ml bottle into snifter, unknown bottle coding. Pours pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings on the glass with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, molasses, toast, dark bread, licorice, raisin, herbal, light char, and roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt, dark sugar, and light yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, molasses, toast, dark bread, raisin, licorice, light char, herbal, and roasted earthiness. Light amount of earthy/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, roast, molasses, toast, dark bread, raisin, light licorice, light char, herbal, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity of dark/roasted malt, dark sugar, and light yeast ester flavors; with a nice roasted sweetness/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very creamy and lightly slick/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent imperial stout. All around great complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt, dark sugar, and light yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

20 oz bottle. Nose heavy chocolate with medium roast, relatively dark and sludgy, faint licorice/anise, earthy malt and slightly green hops. Pours very dark brown that’s nearly black in the glass, slivers of red poking out around the edges, with a hearty tan head. Taste is very sweet with a decent amount of roast, sort of a highly-sugared Turkish coffee with extra burned notes. Velvety rich chocolate with light berries in the bg, but really the sweetness is more pure sugar than malt-influenced. And some honey character, too, and light smoke and faint blueberries. Mayybe vanilla, but that may be my failing (association). Has some English impy character and thankfully skips the American hop overload, light bitterness that’s drowned out by, well, you guessed it. Obese body, extremely sticky lips, clean, refreshing, with medium carbonation, extremely well-controlled alcohol (dangerous, really, dangerous!). This is a big boy! And I’m thankful for that -- great flavor intensity, good in all aspects, just way overdoes the sweetness.
