600ml bottle, labeled as Guanabaro. Pours a very dark brown, with a thin brown head. Roasted, complex aroma, chocolate, licorice, coffee, caramel, hops, candied sugar. Sweet, full bodied, high bitterness, creamy CO2. Rich, roasted taste, chocolate, caramel, coffee, tar, hints of smoke, licorice, chestnut. Long, roasted finish, Quite rich, but feels a little one-dimensional for this type of beer. Enjoyable, though. (2014-04-12)

Pour from 600 mL (20.29 oz., though labeled as "1 Pint, 4 Fl. Oz.") bottle. This is one of only a handful of beers I have had at this size. Consumed on 4-8-14. Labeled as "Colorado Guanabara Imperial Stout Brewed with Black Rapadura Cane Sugar." The bottle lists this at 10% ABV, not the 10.5% attributed to "Colorado Vintage Black Rapadura," which makes me wonder if Colorado Guanabara should be listed as a separate entry and not an alternate name on this site. My girlfriend picked me up several Colorado beers in Rio de Janeiro a few years ago; little did I know they would eventually distribute to Minnesota (this is a bottle I picked up locally a few months ago). Fruity aroma features scents of raspberry, strawberry, plum, sugar, blueberry pie, muffin batter, and raisin. Just a bit artificial-smelling but otherwise an interesting and enjoyable aroma. Pours a maroon-ish black or very dark brown with a golden hue and a small amount of taupe head. Flavors of chocolate, fruit, caramel, burnt sugar, and generic roast. It tastes like a baked dessert with fruit or a chocolate muffin with dark berries. This beer does not use Belgian yeast, but nonetheless it reminds me of a strong Belgian dark ale because of the sugar. A touch of booze and alcohol heat. Medium body and fizzy in a palate that is mediocre overall and subpar for the style. Overall, Colorado Guanabara is arguably a bit too sweet but only a bit. It is, however, intended to be sweet, and the roasted quality balances the sweetness pretty well. An enjoyable, unusual (due to the cane sugar), and memorable beer overall. It is nice to see a Brazilian brewery doing such a solid job of embracing the American craft brewing movement. I will be seeking out the other Colorado offerings available locally.

Taste is lightly metallic, spicy, cola-like, dark chocolate, cola nut, very soda like carbonation. Neat beer. A little ashy in the finish.

Sampled at ebls. A little red in this black beer. A small tan head. A unique nose with a lot going on. I am having a hard time IDing it. Big roasted malts and alcohol are tasted first. Brown sugar. Vinous notes that are red. A coffee finish.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with huge light brown head. Settles quickly with minimal lacing. Aroma is sweet, fruity, sugar, banana, and roasted malt. Flavor is roasted, chocolate up front, malty, toffee, cocoa, with a sweet, mild banana finish. Cane sugar gives it a unique flavor, quite sweet yet roasted. Soft carbonation, medium body, and smooth texture. Pleasantly surprised.
