Draft at CBC. Clear reddish brown color with an average fizzy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted toffee aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Balanced malty sweet flavor with a balanced finish of moderate duration. I would recommend this to a freind.

Growler... Cloudy amber ale with an orange hue and a small, creamy, white head. Toffee notes fill my nose at first, then toasted nuts and milk chocolate. Medium-bodied with fizzy carbonation. Well-balanced flavor. Lengthy, sweet, malty finish. Very drinkable! A big THANK YOU to DragonStout for sharing this Scottish ale with me!

12oz bottle acquired in trade with ogglethorp (thanks!). Poured a medium and clear mahogany color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of earthiness, light smoke, leaves, roast, and caramel. Tastes of lighter earthiness, toffee, and roast.

I was a big fan of Hoster’s 90 Shilling Ale when it was around, so seeing another Columbus brewer creating the same style was kind of exciting. The beer is a dark brown-amber with a medium thick light tan head that has pretty good retention. Roasted malt aroma is very prevalent, along with a bit of hops. Medium-bodied with a sweet malty character, plus some caramel and bitter hops. The finish is dry and sweet at first but ending up with a lingering bitterness. Pretty good all around.

Pours a transparent copper ruby with a spotty-lacing light tan head. Aroma of sweet toasted caramel malt with some doughy yeast character. Body starts fairly full and caramely sweet with some biscuity notes and bittering hops before a drier finish. A decent Scottish ale.

Pours brown with a tan head. Smells of caramel, vegetal, some spice. Tastes of cherries, pepper, lots of sweet malt. Tarte finish.

In short: A superior (way superior) Scottish Ale. Superb session beer.
How: Tap at Surly Girl Salon (a few miles north of the Columbus Brewing brewpub)
The look: Clear amber body with a small beige head
In long: Crisp toffee, creamy caramel and dried fruits are the upfront flavours. Light woody touch, tree bark and some dry raisins. Something about the hopping makes this beer a stand-out. It’s got this fluffy dry tree leaves finish that works very well with the rest of the beer. It was about my 12th pint of the day and I still went through it like if it was my first one. Truly an excellent session beer. Certainly one of the best Scottish Ale I’ve ever had. So good in fact that even a Scottish would be happy to pay for one… almost.

AmEricanbrew (5794) - Same Trailer, Different Park, Louisiana, USA - APR 15, 2010
Hazy red brown color/ rocky beige head. Nutty, toasted caramel aromas. Dry cardboard, spicy caramel, metallic, plastic flavors; drain pour.

Braudog (5627) - Hampton, Virginia, USA - OCT 26, 2006
Draft 4 oz sample at the brewpub 10/23/06: dark red with a thin wisp cloud on top. Sourness comes on the first swallow -- over the top of a moderately meavy roasiness, almost to the level of a bitter java. Sourness mellows.
