Serving: 12 oz bottle (hand-bottled by goldtwins) shared by bgburdman9. Thanks for sharing!
Event: Columbus Wednesday night tasting.
Location: nolankowal’s place.

Tasting Notes
Aroma: Grapefruit, citrus, and peach hops.
Appearance: Cloudy gold color.
Flavor: Well balanced with a nice lightly caramelized malt base and lots of grapefruit and peachy hop flavors. There is also some alcohol present in the flavor. The finish is sweet and sugary.
Palate: Very smooth.
Overall: This smells and tastes more like an Imperial/Double IPA than a barleywine (even moreso than an American-style Barleywine). Overall this beer reminds me of Bell’s Hopslam in many ways...

6/9/07: Sample at Columbus Ale Fest ’07.
Tawny brown-orange body with a slightly tan head. Nice hoppy and citrus – dry hopped nose. Flavors include citrus, peach and apricot. Quite fruity and nicely hopped. Sweet bitter finish.

Growler sampled on 3/14/07, thanks to bgburdman9: Pours a slightly hazy deep copper with a frothy, well-lacing white head. Aroma of sweet pale caramel malt with a huge green piny hoppy presence. Body starts with a big sweet caramel maltiness and lots of fresh grapefruity bittering and flavor hops toward a crisp, bittersweet finish. Very nice, with a touch of slight light fruity complexity. Nicely-balanced and enjoyable.

Hand bottle from a growler sent from here to Georgia and back...shared by bdburdman. Orange pour witha white head. Aroma of floral hops, light citrus, and light pale malt. Flavors of floral hops, a bit of citrus, booze and light caramel malt. Solid body bittersweer and floral throughout with a bitter light sweet finish. Best thing I’ve had from them.

Growler: Poured a hazy maber-brown color with a small off-white head. The aroma was of fresh hops over moderately sweet fruity malt. The hops were of pine and citrus with some earthy notes. The flavor started malty with some big hops mixed in. Medium to full bodied with real nice warmth.

Hand bottled by goldtwins and captain cougar off a growler that I sent to them and they sent back to me. Poured a med brown with a little head. Aroma of a lot of hops and some citrus and peach. Flavor was pretty hoppy and sweet and a lot of bitterness. Pretty good overall for CBC.

Hand bottle...lets see, growler courtesy of bgburdman, hand bottle shipped back from a Georgian. Pours a clear copper color with a white head. Aroma, lots of citrus hops, some lemon, grapefruit, and peach notes, and some pale malts in the background. Flavor, citrus, peach and grapefruit, this is an IIPA, it’s good, but it’s no Barley Wine.

On draught at the brewpub. This brew is a lightly murky reddish amber color with a medium light beige head that has fair retention. Thin rings of lacing throughout. The aroma is fruity hops and caramel. Rich-bodied and before knowing what style it was I started off thinking it was a Barleywine and was convinced it was a 2IPA by the end of the glass. There is a strong citrus and resiny hops flavor with a solid malt and caramel backbone. The finish is bitter hops with touches of fruit. Most of CBC’s one-offs are better than their regular offerings and this beer is no exception.
