3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Dogbrick (4837) - Columbus, USA - AUG 12, 2010
UPDATED: SEP 2, 2010 On draught at Gallo’s. This beer pours a clear golden color with a medium thin white head that evaporates steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of hops and fruit along with a touch of yeast. Medium body with a moderately bitter hops profile offset by sweet malts and yeast. Fruity notes in the background. The finish is hoppy with a mild spice and yeast aftertaste. As with the majority of beers thus far in the Hop Odyssey, this is decent stuff.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Tmoney99 (7300) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUL 1, 2011
Draft. Poured hazy copper color with an average frothy white head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy complex earthy hop and yeast aroma. Medium to full body with a slick texture and lively carbonation. Moderate to heavy complex bittersweet flavor with a moderate to heavy bittersweet finish of medium to long duration. This beer exceeded my expectations.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Acetobacter (816) - Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 11, 2011
Enjoyed on tap in a shaker glass. The beer pours a light amber color, with a moderate white head. The nose shows prevalent notes of what seems to be Simcoe, along with underlying notes of Belgian yeast esters. The palate shows a nice melange of the above-mentioned, resembling Flying Dog’s effort at the same style in many ways. Pine up front, orange, grapefruit, and phenols in the mid-palate, and an assertively bitter finish. Alcohol peaks through a bit in the finish, but is fairly nicely muted, in general. Overall, an excellent effort. Very enjoyable.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 JaBier (3212) - Capital City, Ohio, USA - SEP 10, 2010
On tap at CBC. Pours a clear gold with a thin white head. Aroma of centennial, amarillo and columbus hops with a nice balance of the citrusy, spicy, piney and grassy. There are some Belgian esters in there as well, but the hops are definitely at the forefront (as it should be). Flavor is orangy and malty up front with some yeasty esters and a bittersweet finish. Very nicely done Belgian IPA. I used to be ho hum about CBC, but the 2010: A Hop Odyssey is really opening my eyes. They’re approaching the status of Sierra Nevada and Lagunitas in terms of making extraordinary hoppy beers.
