Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. Appearance is a dark amber with a thin beige head. Aroma is biscuity and sweet caramels. Taste is lightly burnt caramel with a lingering sweet maltiness.
2.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Drake (5232) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - SEP 28, 2011
12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Market Columbus/Dublin. Pours a clear dark amber color with a thin fizzy head that fades almost immediately to nothing. Aroma of nuts, grain, caramel and an almost coffee-like note. The taste is grain, some smokiness, caramel and a slightly metallic hop finish. Thin bodied. High carbonation. Decent effort but it falls flat.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Velkyal (220) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - SEP 25, 2011
From a growler. Pours a beautiful deep copper, plenty too dark to be orange but not dark enough to be red, topped off with a nice inch of light tan, frothy head. Aroma is caramel sweetness with a touch of smoke on the edge. Tastewise sweet toffee, some gentle hop bitterness, with a dry finish. Light-medium bodied, very easy to drink and quite nice really.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 mcnealc31 (173) - Elida, Ohio, USA - SEP 22, 2011
The color is gorgeous! Deep ruby with a rocky off white head. The smell, though, is full of something I don’t want in a Scottish Ale, hops.
I like the round flavor from the caramel malt, there’s a bit of black pepper and spice, bread dough, and a noticeable hop kick at the end leading to a long, dry, bitter, slightly woody finish.
Maybe a bit too hoppy for a Scottish Ale
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 popephred (244) - Plainfield, Illinois, USA - JUN 20, 2011
Poured from the bottle into a pint glass. The pour produced an orange-amber body, topped by a generous head of off-white foam. Notes of caramel present themselves in the aroma, though not in it’s flavor which tends towards the metallic, ending in a bitter aftertaste and thin texture. Okay, though not a good example of a Scotch ale.

Bottle. Pours a dark reddish-brown with a white ring. Sweet malt aroma, of toast, brown sugar, wood. Taste is sharp and sweet, of roasted malt, wood, sugar, dark fruits. Lingering woodiness. Decent.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Dogbrick (4837) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JUN 22, 2006
On draught at the brewpub. Dark brown color with a carbonated look, and a thin and wispy off-white head. This really looks like a glass of cola. Aroma of roasted malt and caramel. Medium-bodied with a nice smoked character, with sweet malt, caramel and hops flavor. There is a touch of hops and bitter chocolate here and there too. The finish is long and sweet, with roasted malt and nuts. As with most of CBC’s seasonals (which tend to be better than their standard offerings), this is good.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 OhioDad (2491) - Hilliard, Ohio, USA - MAR 3, 2006
On draught at the brewpub - Pours a nice deep brown with a short tan head that stayed fairly well and laced down the sides of the glass. Nice aroma of caramel, smoke, a touch of chocolate, and some toffee. Flavor is nice caramel, roasted malts, toffee, a touch of chocolate. Smooth and medium bodied. Somewhat creamy. One of the best I’ve tried from CBC
