3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Dogbrick (4837) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JUN 22, 2006
On draught at the brewpub. Dark brown color with a carbonated look, and a thin and wispy off-white head. This really looks like a glass of cola. Aroma of roasted malt and caramel. Medium-bodied with a nice smoked character, with sweet malt, caramel and hops flavor. There is a touch of hops and bitter chocolate here and there too. The finish is long and sweet, with roasted malt and nuts. As with most of CBC’s seasonals (which tend to be better than their standard offerings), this is good.

The color is gorgeous! Deep ruby with a rocky off white head. The smell, though, is full of something I don’t want in a Scottish Ale, hops.
I like the round flavor from the caramel malt, there’s a bit of black pepper and spice, bread dough, and a noticeable hop kick at the end leading to a long, dry, bitter, slightly woody finish.
Maybe a bit too hoppy for a Scottish Ale
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 OhioDad (2491) - Hilliard, Ohio, USA - MAR 3, 2006
On draught at the brewpub - Pours a nice deep brown with a short tan head that stayed fairly well and laced down the sides of the glass. Nice aroma of caramel, smoke, a touch of chocolate, and some toffee. Flavor is nice caramel, roasted malts, toffee, a touch of chocolate. Smooth and medium bodied. Somewhat creamy. One of the best I’ve tried from CBC

Draft at brewpub. Brown color with an average creamy off-white head that lasted and produced good lacing. Moderate toasted malt and toffee aroma. Medium body with a thin sticky texture. Well balanced sweet toasted malt and caramel flavor with a small bitter finish. Good drinkable brew.

Sweet, toffee, carmel malt nose that is clean with no off aromas. Bright dark copper color with nice lace on the glass. Flavor is malty sweet on front of the tongue but not cloying, mid tongue strong malt flavor with some carmel notes, no diacytl or fruitiness. Finsh is drying with a slight roasted flavor that is not astringent and it does not linger. Maybe a little more drying than expected but finsh balances nicely with the sweet malt flavors. I did not get any real ’smoke’ flavors, but that alright its still a great beer that all should get down to the pub and try!

Beautiful ruby red color, malty with a note of citrus especially in the finish. Good.

Bottle. Pours a dark reddish-brown with a white ring. Sweet malt aroma, of toast, brown sugar, wood. Taste is sharp and sweet, of roasted malt, wood, sugar, dark fruits. Lingering woodiness. Decent.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 popephred (244) - Plainfield, Illinois, USA - JUN 20, 2011
Poured from the bottle into a pint glass. The pour produced an orange-amber body, topped by a generous head of off-white foam. Notes of caramel present themselves in the aroma, though not in it’s flavor which tends towards the metallic, ending in a bitter aftertaste and thin texture. Okay, though not a good example of a Scotch ale.
