CaptainCougar (4664), Rockville, Maryland, USA May 5, 2006 Bottle thanks to OhioDad: Pours a transparent dark mahogany with an airy, thin-lacing off-white head. Sweet, toasty nutty malty aroma has some fresh green English hops. Body starts with a good sweet dark caramel malty character with toasty nuts and a mildly bitter green hoppy presence. Has a touch of bready dough and licorice. A nice, very drinkable brown ale. hopdog (4649), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 16, 2005 Bottle acquired in trade with OhioDad (thanks!). Bottle opened with a loud psst and a small gush - needless to say, this one poured all (and I mean all) head. The head never fully settled (the best I could get it was 4 fingers of head vs. 2.5 finger of beer). Color was a medium to deep brown. Aromas of chocolate, roasted malts, and light caramel. Tastes of nuts, lighter chocolate, roasted malts with a lightly bitter finish. Thinner body. hopscotch (4588), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Feb 24, 2006 Bottle... Dark ale with a small, fizzy, khaki head. Robust aroma for the style... chocolate and dark roasted nuts. The well-balanced flavor is also fairly hearty for the style... chocolate, weak coffee, vanilla and mild caramel. Light to medium-bodied and lively. Short, crisp, grassy finish. Thanks go out to OhioDad for the bottle. muzzlehatch (4424), Burlington, Vermont, USA Apr 7, 2004 12 oz bottle, thanks to sfontain. Huge off-white lasting thick head tops a near-black, blood-tinged body that's more stout-like than anything. Big roasty/nutty/smoky nose is a little darker than usual for the style, but excellent nonetheless. A bit of fruitiness at the front of the flavor, but generally quite dry and roasty...this is verging on porter or dry stout territory, really, if not for the thinnish body which brings it down to merely very good. Very, very drinkable...I'm definitely curious for more from this nice little brewery.
