The mostly-extinct farmhouse breweries of Belgium were notorious for using whatever ingredients were available to them. One of treasures made by these breweries and nearly lost to history was spiced witbier (white beer). Witbier defied an untimely fate, being revived by a man named Pierre Celis who worked in one of the last breweries in Belgium to commercially produce a version of this unique, spiced beer. Celis eventually sold his own witbier brewery and moved to Austin, Texas to open another white beer brewery (Celis White) and the rest is history. In honor of the late and great Pierre Celis, we are proud to offer Community Wit as a warm weather libation, produced locally for our fellow Texans once again. We brew it traditionally using unmalted wheat as our base and lightly spice the kettle with freshly ground sweet and bitter orange peel and coriander seed. The hops are minimal, keeping the focus on the wheat, spices and the unique character contributed by authentic Belgian yeast strains, one of which originated from the same strain that Pierre brought across the Atlantic to America.

had a 4oz glass of this, because when the money is jangling in the pocket, beer is the solution .. hazy amber .. mild german hops, sand, yeast, and mild spice and peach skin .. mouth is airy and refreshing .. solid witbier .. . . Oh, yeah, sellin’ rocks would be bad.

Aroma softens with time - coriander, Belgian yeast, and spice notes. Pours a cloudy yellow with no head or lacing. The taste is like the nose - (slightly sweet in a pleasing way) Nice citrusy finish. Smooth mouthfeel. Overall, a very rewarding beer.

Tap - fair size foamy head, cloudy pale yellow/straw color, nice refreshing mild lemon aroma and favor, solid wheat backbone, some yeasty spice in the finish, pretty good overall ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A hazy pour if golden yellow with an ivory head. The aroma is of the tell tale banana with some citrus and spice. The dry palate carries a subtle maltiness with coriander and other spices. There is also a subtle yeatiness to the crisp finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Murky yellow pour, finger of off white head that leaves quickly. Nose is wheat and yeast. Bittersweet. Middle is citrus zest, subtle spice, light kilned malt. Finish dries some.

Bottle. Pours a hazy gold with a quick-dissipating, shallow, fine-grained, bright white head. Looks like a proper witbier. Nose is coriander, orange, esters, and a delicate grainy lemon. On the palate, it’s bright lemon and spritzy carbonation; inordinately drinkable, but not without some substance on the midpalate. Blessedly free of saccharine sweetness, and simple. Finish is long and lemony. Proper.

Bottle: Hazy, pale yellow with a small white head. Juicy orange, wheat, coriander aroma. Taste is citrusy, lemon-orange, wheat malt... Mild, grassy hops. Really bright and tasty.

Bottle. Orange, lemon, coriander, and wheat malt aroma. Hazy pale yellow with large white head. Light sweet-tart lemon, coriander, wheat malt, and mildly bitter hay flavor. Nice body. Good - not quite to the level of the old Texas Celis White but solid.

Thanks to crajun for the trade! Pours slightly hazy under a frothy white head. Fresh tangy lemony aroma. The flavor is lightly tart and spicy. Classic, very well done witbier.
