3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 wheresthepath (1087) - - JUN 27, 2011
[500ml bottle from Millets Farm Shop, Frilford, nr Abingdon that Dad shared with me - cheers!] Light amber, small white head. Good smooth resinous mouthfeel. Sweet, but it’s got just enough earthy, grassy hops to balance (although there’s little bitterness). Nice lasting floral finish. Rather enjoyed this one!
1.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20 BenH (735) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - DEC 4, 2011
From bottle. Aroma of sour apples and tangy caramel toffee. Similar taste, lots of malt, it’s all over the place and full of unpleasantness. Tangy, sour, unbalanced. A serious contender for the worst ipa I’ve ever tasted. I hope my sink enjoyed it more than I did

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Brandman (1067) - Helsinki, FINLAND - JUN 29, 2011
Golden body, white head. Arom aof fruits, sugar, butter and malt. Flavour has phenols, peppers and cloves. Sweet fruits. Grassy, flowery hops in flavour. Strong and sturdy.
2.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 Stephanos (864) - NORTHERN IRELAND - MAY 18, 2011
A surprise this one, pours a golden brown, almost cider in colour, with a lack of head and apple aroma which supports this evaluation. Some caramel and diacetyl also on the nose. Certainly a beer as there is a bitter element detectable in the body and aftertaste, but not a traditional IPA in that it is missing any stand out hop character and is in fact quite dull for its 6% ABV. Lightly carbonated and of medium body.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 maeib (6634) - Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, ENGLAND - MAY 8, 2011
Bottled. An orange coloured beer with no head. A sweet marmalade aroma with a bit of sugar. The taste is thick, gloopy and hoppy. Sweet and sugary with a dash of pepper. Complex and probably too busy, but is interesting.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 rosenbergh (3486) - Helsinki, FINLAND - MAY 6, 2011
500 ml bottle. From Oxford, England. HHOK IX.
Clear deep golden colour with small white head.
Mild fruity hops, sugary sweetness and caramel in aroma.
Flavour is mildly yeasty, some zesty hops, dark malt and caramel.
Decent but something’s missing.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 harrisoni (10070) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - APR 29, 2011
Cask gravity at Reading BF 2011. Clear gold with thin white head. Yes some hops. Tasty enough beer. Good carbonation. Good solid hops without being showy. Ok
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 imdownthepub (7473) - Banbury, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - JAN 6, 2011
Bottled, 500ml from Bellingers Garage, Grove, Oxon. Orange gold with white head. Initial thoughts were that this is similar to a summer golden beer, light and fragrant, easy on the palate, but then the hops did force their way in giving a quite astringent, zesty, bitter note, enough hops to give me a sneezing fit, which happens sometimes. Lasting on the palate with a long finish. I enjoyed this beer, despite the sneezing.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 berkshirejohn (3016) - Bracknell, Berkshire, ENGLAND - SEP 11, 2010
50cl bottle from Westholme Stores, Goring. Amber with a loose cream head and heavy carbonation; light, grassy hop aroma, more reminiscent of German hops than English ones; full and buttery in the mouth with some orange fruit and butterscotch; the finish is woody, lightly bitter and disappointing. This certainly isn’t a modern IPA, and is unlikely to be representative of the original IPA style - I recommend reading "Hops and Glory" by Pete Brown to understand what that may have been like.
