Cask - The Whalebone Beer Festival 2010, Norwich. Poured very dark brown in colour with a fine & frothy, mostly lasting beige head. Some mid-dark berries, roasted malts, some choc and a drop of smoke on the aroma. Similar flavour profile, dry and malty, some backing sweetness but on top it’s roasty with an underying sourish fruit note. Soft on the tongue with minimal carbonation, light to medium in body. Not a bad mild in all.

Cask conditioned at Banbury Beer Fest ’11. Chestnut with cream head. First impressions were of good depth in the malt, quite nutty and dry with a hint of bonfire. The maltiness remains dry thoughout. Not bad really.

Cask conditioned handpump Malt Shovel Northampton. A black beer with a white head and lacing. The aroma is dry and fruity with hints of smokiness. A bit of sweetness in the mouth with a milky note. Light roast. An average mild.

Bottle fthat was passed onto me by Hughie, cheers mate! consumed 03-05-09 Pours a very dark brown with a light beige head, the foam from which continues to pump out of the bottle long after I’d poured over half of this into my glass, I would have poured more but the head resembles Marge Simpson’s hair do at the moment. Lets say its a lively one with a bit of yeasty sediment in suspension. Tastes really quite malty but there’s a slight earthiness to this as well and maybe a bit of Popcorn and spongecake, I might be wrong on that last bit but there is something sweet in there and these were my first thoughts. I would have written more but fell asleep with the rest still gently oozing from the bottle on the sink. It was still highly fizzy when I poured it away this morning. A6 A2 F6 P3 Ov12 2.9

UPDATED: AUG 16, 2008 Cask at ’Spoons, Milton Keynes. Very dark brown with a cream head. Strong chocolate malt aroma and taste. Some sourness but virtually no bitterness. A little plastic tang let it down.
