Light brown with a sticky little head. Loads of sweet malt and a little hoppy tang in the aroma. Super malty in the mouth. A slight saltiness with surprisingly deep marmite aftertones. Maybe the tiniest hint of hops mixed amongst the biscuitty puff. It is ok but feels a little raw.

BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 17, 2012
Bottle conditioned 500ml ale, tasted just before its best before date during one of my ’random beer reviewing evenings’ in Oct 2010. The beer gushed out of the bottle on opening, so the sediment filled the glass somewhat. The colour was therefore a dirty amber mess, the white head produced some good lacing as the beer fell away in the glass. The aroma was of sweet molasses, with a heavy yeast presence added. The beer had a semi-sweet malt initial taste turning a more hoppy bitter finish. Interesting and enjoyable, pity the beer flew out the bottle on opening.

tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - NOV 21, 2011
Tasted this at the Troon Beer Festival in October 2011. Cask, gravity dispense. Clear copper red in colour with a thin white head. Sweet malt in the short aroma. Thin resiny mouthfeel and poor lacing. Pale malts give a digestive biscuit base with sweet toffee notes. Short spell of hop resins leave a bitter bite to the aftertaste. The finish is rather short, bitter sweet with barley sugar and cereal notes. An ok session bitter.

Cask at Southampton Arms. Orange coloured with a small head. Aroma is a bit grainy. Taste is quite bitter, bit oaty, gets slightly fruity towards the end. Quite full in the mouth. Not bad, but won’t rush to have it again.

Pours red amber with frothy light tanned head leaving nice lacing. Aroma of yeast, fruity hoppy, floral and some malts. Thin body. Watery mouthfeel. Flavor is fruity, fresh, hoppy and floral. Thin fruity palate. Finishes with a pleasant tart bitter, longlived aftertaste.

Cask conditioned handpump Malt Shovel Northampton. An amber coloured beer with a whitish head and lacing. A malty aroma with a bit of oats leads to a fruity taste with cereal notes. Plenty of earthy English qualities. Fruitiness is quite nice.

sm89walt (1419) - Norwich, Norfolk, ENGLAND - MAY 27, 2010
Cask - The Whalebone Beer Festival 2010, Norwich. Poured amber in colour with a fine, frothy off-white head. Very toasty, slightly roasted aromas, caramel/toffee and biscuit. Not quite as toasted on the palate but it’s still there, just a predominant biscuity, caramel malt sweetness takes over along with a dry - perhaps a touch muddy - fruity hop finish. Soft mouthfeel, light to medium in body.

Cask at Ye Old Swan restaurant in Milton Keynes. An amber coloured ale with a medium head. Malty, fruity, slight hoppiness/bitterness. Quite a pleasant session beer.
