This actually has a really nice head on it, permanent and creamy. Flat out malts all over this hints of powdery nesquik milkshakes. Pretty much the same in the mouth. not wholly unpleasant but damn boring.

Cask conditioned at Far From the Madding Crowd, Oxford. Copper with white head. Dark, roasty, malty beer, pretty smooth but with a light edge of hoppy bitterness. Quite full on the pallate, some fruitiness late on, pretty decent.

Bottled@Chriso. Deep amber colour, small beige head. Aroma is rather fruity, spicy as well as bitter grassy and some slight notes of caramel as well. Flafvour is caramel malts, fruits, rather sweet sugary notes as well as a mild harsh yeasty/eartyness as well. Still quite nice.

Cask conditioned handpump Malt Shovel Northampton. A dark amber coloured beer with a slight off-white head. The aroma is dry fruity malty and earthy. Dry and earthy in the mouth with some tea. Better than the sum of its parts.

UPDATED: FEB 15, 2010 Cask (gravity) at the Hop Pole Easter beer festival 2009, Aylesbury. Not really dark ruby. More of a copper colour really. Slightly hazy. Somewhat grainy malt aroma. Reasonably bitter on the palate with a touch of sweetness. Perfectly decent but didn’t really capture my attention. (6/3/6/3/12 = 3.0) RE-RATE. 500ml bottle, best before 29 March 2010, consumed in January 2010. Very heavily bottle conditioned. Murky amber colour - agitated by the conditioning. Caramel aroma. Some almost Belgian yeasty notes. Touches of licorice, chocolate malt and tart bitterness on the palate. (6/3/7/3/13 = 3.2) Score upgraded

[Gravity cask at Milton Keynes beerfest] Dusty and sweet, with treacle, malt and straw. Good beer this.

Cask, Far From The Madding Crowd, Oxford. Dark copper, fine sticky white head. Soft chocolate and caramel aroma. Rich malt sweetness, melty chocolate bar. Just a little earthy bitterness and a hint of tartness to cut the sweet. Comforting, full, and served in top shape. This dark sweet sort of premium bitter is one of my favorite things, and all too rare.

Cask at ’Spoons, Milton Keynes. I missed the brewery’s debut at the recent MK Festival, so this is my first taste of their products. Copper colour with a small white head. Coffee aroma, more latte than espresso. Malty coffee taste, sweet and very distictive. A little bitterness. After a slow start it grew on me.
