3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured a hazy white-straw-golden body with a very thick white head. Uber-spicy and peppery. Very nice. Grassy, earthy and chewy yet, light and refreshing. Awesome beer!

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
A vigorous pour produces a three finger thick, pale, off-white colored head in my New Belgium globe glass. The beer is a hazed, straw color that shows a hazy, amber-tinged, gold color when held up to the light. The aroma is quite spicy with ample spice notes reminiscent of an aromatic mix of ginger, clove, nutmeg, pepper and something akin to white chocolate. If you really dig for it a grassy grain note becomes noticeable.
The beer is lightly sweet, but mostly comes across as dry. It is light bodied, but has a soft weight to it as it flows across the tongue. It finishes with a biting note that is a mix of pepper and bitterness. Flavors of nutmeg, light ginger, something savor that is a bit like sage or rosemary, clove and allspice. There is not a whole lot of the usually beery flavors here, but I wouldn’t say that the spices are overwhelming; the spices certainly play the lead role, but I wouldn’t bet my life on the specific mix of spics used. This is well carbonated, which adds a nice textural component to the delivered spice flavors. Perhaps a touch of herbal honey notes and a touch of cracker-like grain are all that I really get of the malt character in the flavor.
The spiciness is certainly more focused in the aroma than it is in the flavor, but it still plays a big role here as well. This is pretty tasty and is a nice mix of spices, but I really wish that the typical malt and hop notes would have added some additional and, I would argue, needed complexity. Not nearly as tasty as the original Coney Island Lager.

22 ounce bottle purchased from the Davis Food Co-Op. Holy shit, this smells like pepperoni pizza. Perhaps a little herbal basil is also there in the nose. Definitely pepperoni. Moderately hazy yellow body with a medium-small white head with pretty crappy lacing. Highly carbonated, highly spicy, peppery, herbal flavors to start. A bit lemony and metallic in the middle. Finish has some more of those herbal pepperoni flavors. Pretty hopped up in the end. Not sure I care for this.

Nice light yellow straw color with medium white head and good carbonation. The nose is spicy with definite malt undertones. Nice spicy ginger lemon on the tongue and finishes with a nice ginger burn. Interesting beer. Would definitely drink again.

Bomber from the Coop in Davis, CA. Hazy golden color with a decent white head. Aromas of flowers and spice. Medium body with frothy carbonation. Flavor is nutmeg? Along with some malt and hop bitter. Ginger? A pleasure to the nose, and pretty tasty in the mouth. Finish is semi-clean.

The herbs in this were funky, I couldn’t quite pick it up, maybe basil? ginger? mint? and lavender? Spices are sort of in the Fantome realm, the beer didn’t quite get there. Still very decent brew that went really well with my pesto pasta.

Bottle... Hazy yellow lager with a small, frothy, white head. The nose presents winter and spring spices... cinnamon, nutmeg and lavender; also a healthy measure of cereal grains and biscuit malt. Full-bodied with spritzy carbonation. Fruity, sweet, spicy and lightly acidic. Finishes spicy-sweet and tangy. An odd bird, but not altogether bad. Why brew it? I have no idea, but creativity rocks!
