COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This might be the most unique barrel aged lager you will find. Brewed like a barley wine but fermented as a lager then aged on fresh wet Buffalo Trace barrels for 5 months.

22oz bottle poured into a Stem Glass at 42°. Color is a hazy pale amber with good carbonation and a rocky off white head that goes down to thin and tight. Aroma is a sweet caramel scent with a faint note of oak in the back. It has a medium body that goes down smooth with a fizzy feel on the end. Flavor of bourbon and oak with a bit of vanilla. After taste is sharp with a punch of alcohol and lingering oak that leave a dry feel in the end. Overall I’m a little disappointed, the alcohol overpowers the flavors, but the flavor that comes through is good.

Expensive as hell bomber pours dark clear ruby red with tan head. Based on my memory of the non-barrel aged version I am expecting something overly sweet and near undrinkable. Here goes. The aroma is smooth sweet bourbon, vanilla and wood with just noticeable levels of sweet malts and prunes well off in the background. The taste begins with a rush of sweet thick malts, uh oh, sweet sticky prunes and raisins. Just as you begin to understand the boldness of the sweet esters an even brasher bombardment of bourbon booze booziness, that only seems to get bolder and bolder, followed close by firm notes of oak and sweet vanilla and some caramel take complete control and hurry this thing into the finish. For the most part the barrel has eaten up the overly sweet beer that went into it. A little less barrel time would have been interesting to try.

Tap @ The BeerMongers... Poured amber with a thick, beige head. Nose of oak, whiskey, and doughy malts. Tasted hot with whiskey but big fruit esters that balanced it all. Quite delicious! Oak, raisins, toffee sugars. Pretty darn awesome!

Pours dark mahogany into a stem glass. Off-white head with excellent retention recedes to skim surface. Oak and whiskey aromas. Dark caramel and toffee upfront turning oaky before the lasting bourbon burn.

Pours a murky brown body with a lively tan head that leaves behind great lacing. It smeels of caramel and maybe some vanilla. The bourbon is also very prominent in the aroma. It tastes much like the nose would suggest, sweet like caramel and vanilla with the heat from the bourbon being an aggresive finish. Overall this is quite a tasty beer but no more than one for me.

(22oz bottle). Pours a hazy amber color with a fluffy tan head that leaves some lacing. Aroma is strong bourbon/whiskey, alcohol drenched fruit, wood and vanilla. The barrel dominates. Taste is sweet with alcohol presence. Full bodied with a slick texture. Finish is hot. I can’t taste the base beer. Its all bourbon on this and its not a good thing.

Sampled at an ESBLS tasting. I picked this up at The Wine and Cheese Place. Dark mahogany with a nice foam. A rich malty nose with rye and wood. This offers wood flavors and so much malt! It is also very hot and that ABV is not hidden at all. The wood and accompanying vanilla is nice but too much heat detracts.

Draught at Birch & Barley/Churchkey. Brown. Aroma heavy malty (caramel, roasted, lots of dark fruit, wood, chocolate). Flavor moderate to heavy sweet, light to moderate bitter. Almost full body, some alcohol felt.
