on tap at the Spuyten Duyvil. BRIGHT pinkish red/magenta colored body, like nothing else. Bright pink creamy head. BRIGHT! aroma is hoppy, sweaty, vegetal. flavor is hoppy, bitter leafy, & a bit medicinal, but also lots of caramel malt. finish gets more hoppy bitter. more on the hoppy side, but decent enough balance of caramel malt.

I had this on draft. What an insane color. The beer and the head were crazy red with a hint of blood orange. I had such a hard time getting past the color that I didn’t have to much to say abou the beer. Not much of an Ofest for me. No spices. Some malts and sweet flavor with some pungent bitterness.

good flavor as an amber astringent pale ale. bright red color with no other apparent alteration. bitter tang and hoppy citrus mid palate. sudsy foamy and not an octoberfest by a long shot....but hey not a bad beer!

Draft at Hop Devil. WTF orange. Seriously.
No, seriously. Why does this have a bright orange head. Weak, light cranberry aroma. Rice. Goes down easy, light corn/rice taste, fusels, tar. Not as drinkable as a real octoberfest. And if this weren’t bright bullshit orange I would’ve given it a 3.1.

Cask @ Brazen Head: OK whats up with the red dye job. I don’t drink green beer either. I really couldn’t smell much of anything in there. Yeah some malt but meh. I did pick up some kool-aid powder, punch flavor, but I don’t know if it was my imagination due to the look of it. Holy crap as I am typing this the Kool-aid pitcher guy was on Family Guy. What are the odds. Also what are the odds that such a crappy beer gets my longest rating.

While the Coney Island lager waws a nice achievement of an underappreciated style this is a mess of beer and is disgraceful. It’s made with red food coloring to make it look like blood. Which is cool I dig it, neon red color and a pink head. Aroma is light DMS with ligh artidical sweetner. taste is light fruit and light crap (not to descriptive but by this point the beer had warn out it’s welcome).
Tap @ the Brazen Head.

UPDATED: SEP 16, 2008 Tap at the Brazen Head: Strawberry color bright red with a bright red head. (All food coloring/artificial) Surprisingly clean malt aroma, fresh and doughy. Decent texture. The appearance would suggest it’s taste articial, but it doesn’t. It actually has a lightly spiced malt body with a balanced flowery bitterness. Better than expected (for the entire premise of the beer)

Draught at Brazen Head. Bright red beer with a huge red head. Looks like a bloody mess. Actually smells like beer. Light toasty munich malt and soft herbal hops. A bit of soft caramel flavour as well. Quite fresh and fairly balanced. It’s tough to get past the appearance, but it’s actually a pretty solid brew. Softly herbal bitterness on the back.

Draught at Barcade, and for good measure, Brazen Head. Dyed-red color. Like foamy and hazy fruit punch. I get the whole looking-like-blood for Halloween thing, but I’m hoping it’s at least some kind of natural beet dye as opposed to "red #40." This gimmick reminds me of the old anti-freeze color green Schlitz of St. Patty’s days past. As far as the beer goes, has an aroma of buttered toast or popcorn, fruitstripe gum, and maybe some cotton candy, not dissimilar to the C.I. Lager. Flavor of light caramel malts with some more buttered popcorn and gummy bears. A little pastey tasting in the palate, but with some hops coming at the end to cut through. I listed this as an "Oktoberfest" just by default, but don’t look for any O.F. style attributes here please. Good Halloween party beer I suppose, it’s just that someone has to bring the party...

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft at Barcade. I think it looked like a frothy, slightly watered down glass of blood. I am not quite sure it tasted as good as blood though. There was a little bit of the german style malt in this one, but there was also a noticable tart / fruity taste that was not normal for the style. It was alright, and at least somewhat creative.
