Amazing beer that is complete "freak"tober. From the 6.66 % to the almost blood red color. Not super easy to find which makes it exciting for me when I do. Very good beer and strongly recommended.

Auburn-blood red color with pink foam. Aroma of candy corn and caramel. Malty marzen flavor with a grapefruit juice finish. Definitely stands out as one of the more original and enjoyable annual Octoberfest offerings.

14oct08.
tap @ TacoMac, Johns Creek. Bright red, just like Hawaiian Punch, tall pink fizzy head. everyone at the bar asked what it was. A very big, sweet floral aroma of hops. cooling aroma. Smells definitly not what it looks like. After the initial sip, the appearance will still throw you off. it looks like you’d be enjoying a tart raspberry lambic, no sir, you were wrong. This thing is all Märzen. Well balanced, lots of caramel malt flavors, very nice hop character. It just looks F’n crizay. It just ain’t right, you know!
Absolutely rememberable!

I’m surprised to see little love for this weird beer on here. The pink (almost red!) pour is surprising, but this is a delicious beer. Fruity, candy-like - but also hoppy. Try it.

Pours cherry red with a fair light pink head. Aroma is of cherries, cranberries, spices, some hops and citrus. Very fruity. Lots of cherries and cranberry up front, some sweet malts and a nice hop finish. For an octoberfest it’s a little weird but I don’t know why it has such a low rating. It’s a very interesting beer.

The smell is fresh and fruity. Hops dominate the flavor, but they aren’t overpowering. Some sweet malt in there, too. Outstanding lacing, even if it is pink foam. Smooth and crisp without being the slightest bit watery.
It doesn’t taste as complex as the 6 malts and 6 hops would expect you to believe, but it’s a fun, unique, tasty, and drinkable beer.

From the Schmaltz Brewery, Freaktoberfest is an interesting and tasty beer treat!
Pours blood red and perfectly clear, head is a bit on the pink side and lacing is not bad at all.
Caramel malts, grains, sweet toasty malts, and a little fruit make up the aroma.
Taste wise it’s not too far off from a Marzen or Octoberfest. Nice caramel malts and toasty, bready malts make up the bulk of the flavor. Hop bitterness is present in a balancing way, but isn’t the main attribute. It grows some as it warms though.
Body is lager-y and pretty easy drinking, yet full and right on the money for a marzen or Octoberfest style beer.
I think it’s another very interesting beer from Schmaltz, one of my favorite US breweries!

This proves how much color can affect your opinion. When I first saw it coming out of the bottle. I was a beautiful malt bomb. It actually scared me! Then I busted up laughing. Thanks Jeremy. A moment to remember. Sweet honey malt with depth. Good but not great. One of my favorite breweries. Great Halloween beer. If you understand Jeremy’s humor. Then you can appreciate this beer.

Aroma is strong, mainly malty with a fruity, almost cider-like overtone. Pours a warm clear coppery red with a thick, pinkish-beige head. Flavor is crisp and malty with just a touch of fruit, an edge of hoppy bitterness, and a nutty hint. Texture and finish are satisfyingly smooth, and aftertaste has a whisper of sweetness as well as a little hop bite.

Bottle. Thanks Bartzilla! Surprised at the low scores for this one. I thought it was tasty. Awesome red pour. Rich, malty and nicely hopped. Reminded me of Arrogant Bastard.
