Maverick34 (483), New York, USA Jul 6, 2008 Draft at waterfront. Poured a darkier burnt siena with a medium to mild head. Malts, breads, a caramel taste but a bit o a hops finish. Not bad. JoeMcPhee (3815), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Jun 29, 2008 Tap at Spuyten Duyvil. Deep dark amber beer with a thin white head. Aroma is quite malty and toasty. Some nice plummy/nutty malts and a bit of brown sugar. Flavour is very clean and quite tasty. Fresh clean but rich toasty malts. Lingering sweetness but the finish is so clean that it never gets cloying. I didn’t know these guys could make a lager this good. Very nice doppelbock. PilsnerPeter (1520), Flushing, New York, USA Jun 25, 2008 Tap at The Diamond: Pours a brownish amber with lots of clarity and a think, creamy dense tan head. Sweet bready malt aroma with some mild nutty notes. Very thick and creamy feel to the body. Sweet malt dominated flavor of honey, dough and caramel. There’s just a touch of nuttiness when it warms. Not much bitterness is in there. It’s a bit sweet, but it’s decent for an American Dark Lager. I never really enjoy this style. getalife2k5 (7), Astoria, New York, USA does not count Jun 22, 2008 Updated: Jun 25, 2008Coney Island Human Block Head on tap at Blind Tiger Ale House. Served in a 1/2 pint snifter. Poured with no head and only a light ring around the glass. Reddish brown in color, like Cola. Smelled malty, like caramel, brown sugar, raisin and plum... like a light brown ale. some slight alcohol was detected in the aroma. it tasted like a brown lager, sweet, with caramel, molasses, raisin and honey smoothness. ended with the slightest hop bitterness. is it an Octoberfest? An American Strong? well, it is a lager... the 8.8% is very nicely warming, and not detectable in the taste. this doesn’t really seem like a summer beer, and not my preference in style, but pretty good for whatever it is.
the tap handle was pretty cool, shaped like a bottle the label had a cartoonish depiction of the Human Block Head himself, boulder on his head and handle bar mustache and devilish goatee, hammering a nail into his nose.
