355ml bottle pours a deep amber brown color with a finger of white head that settles to leave very little lace on the glass. Aroma is caramel and some citrus hops. Taste is a bold malty sweetness with a moderate hoppy bitterness to round things out. Medium body and light carbonation with a warming from the high ABV. Another interesting brew from the crew at Shmaltz and is definitely a slow sipper.

This is a odd lager, doppelbock is as accurate as any style I can think of. Very malty aroma and taste. This beer also has a lot of kick with a 10% alcohol content. Medium brown appearance. Different but enjoyable.

Bottle
Appearance - Medium-brown body, thin head
Aroma - Toffee, dried citrus
Taste - Molasses, light brown sugar, sweet malts, hops

For a such a warm, heavy beer, it wasn’t at all too complex. Perfectly drinkable, though, and spicy in a sense. Not too shabby this one is.

Pours a deep garnet color with a medium off white head. The aroma is caramel malts, candy, some earthy hops and a noticeable alcohol burn. The flavor is sweet caramel with medium bitterness. I definitely get more hops character and bitterness than what you find with most dopplebocks. Not bad.

Bomber. The aroma was a malty molasses with yeast and dough, the appearance was a murky medium brown with a light head that dissolved into a white ring with stay power, and the palate felt sticky, a medium body. The taste was at first strongly malted, sweet molasses, but then faded to an alcohol almost sour finish. My first by this brewery, and I’m intrigued. I’ll check out the rest.

How I Spent My Christmas: Big bomber. Pours a somewhat hazy copper color, thick head, great lacing. Aroma is bread and malt, with some banana notes. Flavor is a robust mix of malt and yeast, with some caramel notes. There is a strong alcohol undertone as well, and at the end I pick up something that reminds me of olive oil. Not too bad.

Bottle:   Deep copper in color, moderate frothy off-white head, spotty lacing.   Sweet bready nose, smidgen of a dark pitted fruit.   Semi-sweet tootsie roll like malty sweetness on the tongue.   Yep, that pretty much sums this one up.   Some alcohol is noticeable.   Oh yeah, for 10% this one is very warming.   Not heavy at all, in fact its a little thin for being 10%.   Backside is at least palatable.   Not heavy, biting, or totally cloying.   Could use a little more malt backing to support this sweet alcohol parade.   Finish is a little fiery, burning, and overall has lingering alcohol.   I sat on this bottle from last year... but it still is burning a hole in my shirt.

Not your usual lager, much more like a Barleywine, copper with just a hint of haze , very nice head that holds. Some bitter hints and just a little iron but great.

Shmaltz Coney Island Human Blockhead. Pours medium to dark brown with ruddy undertones. Smallish tan head with good retention. Aroma is sweetish with notes of boozy apples toffee, and a huge malt profile. Holy boozy dopplebock. Toffee and malt abound. Clean hoppy bitter finish. Awesome. Will buy more.

The aroma is sweet toffee, like a bock or mild barleywine. Malt is more of a light Euro variety. I like it, really unexpected. The appearance is glassy red-orange with a puffy pearl-colored head. The label says it’s a lager, but it’s clearly not a regular lager. The flavor is caramel, butterscotch, toffee and black licorice. Sugary but with a serious bite at the end. Molasses as hell! Serious alcohol presence too, like a whiskey chaser. A touch of cherry juice. Feels smooth and buttery. Really slick. Wish it was a little easier. A dark, sweet doppelbock. Toffee and molasses. At 10% it’s no joke.
