This beautiful example of an American Imperial Bock is delicious! It tickles the tongue with a beautiful hop profile and engorges the mouth, palate and throat with a wicked lingering luscious malt rush! under-rated!

He’brew?!? Schmaltz?+*&% Olde Saratoga??? Mendocino?>":+*%$#. What is this beer trivia? Anyway this beer is pretty good. Thick sweet and syrupy. The high alcohol complements the sweetness well. Oaked bourbon raisin and vanilla. Should be higher rated. Very very nice and damn tasty.

Tap @ The He’Brew Bash at the Blind Tiger NYC. I was fricking wasted by the end so some of these rates might be a bit odd. Mega clear, some light hoppiness on the nose. Super rich and full, sweet yet bitter and sooo good.

Heavy toffee and maltiness in aroma. The flavor is caramel, sweetish malts, toffee, a mild undertone of hops and a alcohol kick in the finish.

translucent copper brown, thick bubbly beige head, creamy full body, medium-high carbonation.
aroma: dark alcohol, roasted toffee malt, bready yeast, and a touch of blown-out candles.
taste: metallic minerality, blown-out candles, very toffee and dark-roast malts, leafy hops, bready yeast, and some boozy alcohol.
Not very traditional, which is not a bad thing to me. Somewhere between doppelbock and barleywine. This has a lot of potential, but needs a little age to mellow it out.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 RSRIZZO (1679) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - FEB 27, 2009
Color is a bright amber with very good carbonation and a nice tight head. Aroma is sweet, a bit roasted with alcohol tones in the back. Taste is rich, sweet and smooth. Starting with a bold medium body it goes down smooth with a rich feel. Finish comes in sweet with a raisin like flavor, a hint of vanilla, some hops and just a faint bitterness. After taste has a big alcohol feel as all the rich flavors slowly fade. After the first few sips, as you sit back you get a warming feeling deep inside. Overall I love it, great brew, its rich and flavorful yet very drinkable and the 10% ABV keeps you happy.

Coney Island Human Blockhead is a very clear copper lager with a dense, yellowish off-white head that leaves great lacing. It has a tart aroma with sweet malt notes. It’s full bodied and very smooth with a clean, dry finish. It tastes tart and sweet and syrupy and simple. It’s rather lightly bittered with a grassy, herbal spice. It tastes clean. It’s very drinkable... but strong.

on tap at Taco Mac, Windward... served in a snifter. arrived a deep red hue with a thin white head. very pleasant engaging aromas of light sweet fruit, candi sugar and alcohol... medium body that brings some raisins, caramel, and sweet malts forward... finishes strong and clean... overall a really nice strong ale that sips well and finishes strong... I agree - this is underrated... a very nice beer.

I pour this baby into my glass and it is a deep red color. A sandy off white head develops on top of the brew and leaves some lacing on the glass.
The nose is a lot of what you expect from a doppelbock. Hints of caramel, cherries, bready malts, the gang is all there.
There is a lot more of the same in the taste with the sweet caramel and cherries flavors. There is some slightly roasted malt hints in there and then an earthy hop taste to balance things out. The alcohol is a little hidden at first but comes out more as it warms up.

UPDATED: APR 16, 2009 On tap at Blind Tiger. Awesome doppleock. The aroma is malts, fruit, slight booziness, very nice, true to the Double Bock style. The appearance is gorgeous; a deep red/purple, almost brown, tan head. The flavor follows the aroma, but is slightly less pleasing. The flavor is malty, fruity, strong boozy flavor. The finish is piney hops, and warming from the booze. Very nicely crafted dopplebock.
