Crisscrossed with streams and rivers and bordered east and west by the mighty Missouri and Mississippi, Iowa knows a thing or two about high water. This beer is made with the bounty of the Midwest and a twist of Great Britain. We combine Golden Promise malt, Midwestern two-row barley malt, Special B, three varieties of dark barley malt and roasted barley, plus a whopping 125 pounds of rolled oats to give it a smooth, creamy mouth feel.

Then we call in our friends from the U.K., including Scottish ale yeast to drive the fermentation, English Fuggles hops to lead the bittering and English East Kent Goldings. Put it all together and High Water becomes a dark treat on a cold winter evening.

Pretty normal stout, sorta boring for an oatmeal but of you like smooth you would dig. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Non-offensive, boring, monotone stout. Not much oatmeal flavor coming through. Velvety texture.

Enjoyed this beer at a beer tasting event, Brrfest, in Coralville, IA. A decent oatmeal stout, but not one of my favorites. Confluence has much better beer to try.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a black body with a dense, two finger-width, creamy, dark brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is smooth oats and darker chocolates with a medium sweetness as well as some grains, light roasts, and earth. Flavor is similar. Slightly grainy, roasts and earth up front before the darker chocolates and smooth oats come in. Finishes clean and dry with a light bitterness and a smooth sweetness. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium-light body and a soft, moderate carbonation. Overall, a solid oatmeal stout. Smooth oats and chocolate with a balanced roast and light earth. Nice beer.
